Kobbie Mainoo has been a regular starter under Michael Carrick since his arrival at Manchester United. Despite some criticisms, he has been impressive.
After the treatment under Ruben Amorim, Kobbie Mainoo has been revitalised under Michael Carrick, earning his place regularly in the starting line-up for Manchester United.
Mainoo has even returned to the England squad, called up by Thomas Tuchel for the March international break.
Now, it has emerged that Mainoo’s improvements have not come on their own, as he’s worked hard for his current success.

Kobbie Mainoo has been working on three different parts of his game
Speaking on the latest episode of the Stick to Devils Podcast, Laurie Whitwell has stated that Mainoo has been working extra during training in order to improve.
This is particularly in three areas.
“He’s been working on his agility and his fitness and his running ability while he’s been out of the side, both at the club and away from it as well. So, he clearly feels there are significant areas to improve.”
These are areas that many feel Mainoo has deteriorated in since his debut season, but likely have come as a result of the midfielder not really playing for 18 months due to injury and Amorim’s refusal to use him.
Mainoo is probably one of the top five most talented midfielders in the league, and if he manages to regain that running ability and bit of speed he showed in his debut season, then he would be completely unbeatable.
Mainoo is close to a deserved contract extension at Manchester United
Mainoo’s return to the team has directly correlated with the uptick in form showcased since January, amid United’s rise to third in the table.
Now, as a result, Mainoo is finally close to getting a contract extension, which he thoroughly deserves given his importance and quality, with a new pay rate of £120,000-a-week suggested.
Mainoo’s contract disputes lasted two years, with initial hopes to have sorted it by the 2024 European Championships long gone now.
But finally, he’s playing regularly again and will be tied down long-term to the club, even if he gets some criticism.
Hopefully, he sees out the season at this level, goes to the World Cup and has already committed to United by then. His nightmare under Amorim could soon be forgotten.
