Raphael Varane, Diogo Dalot, Tyrell Malacia and Antony have been recalled to the starting lineup.

Varane, Dalot and Malacia were on the bench against Bournemouth on Tuesday night, while Antony missed that game entirely but was back in training the next day.

New signing Jack Butland is not in the squad, but he could perhaps make his debut against Charlton in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night.

Luke Shaw has moved back inside to central defence, as the only surviving member of the back four from Tuesday’s 3-0 win.

It is a strong team, continuing the theme of Ten Hag’s approach to the cups so far this season, but perhaps there will be changes against the Addicks next week.

Donny van de Beek started against Bournemouth but he was always going to miss this game with a knee injury which looks potentially serious but we are yet to get a full diagnosis.
