Erik ten Hag admits Manchester United star has just been 'thrown back' by a frustrating setback

Erik ten Hag was asked once again about Donny van de Beek and his injury situation after Manchester United beat Everton.

Dutch outlet Ziggo Sport asked the Dutchman about his countryman who was forced off in the first half of United’s 3-0 win over Bournemouth on Tuesday night.

That meant he missed the 3-1 victory over the Toffees last night and his injury does not look good at all from this angle (graphic warning).

Ten Hag said that there is still no timeframe on the midfielder’s absence but admitted it is another hugely frustrating setback.

Ten Hag admits Van de Beek has been ‘thrown back’

“We are still in the process of closing the investigation,” he replied when asked for an update on Van de Beek.

“Once we’ve done that, we’ll come out, of course. That is it. It is very annoying, also because he had just come back from an injury.

“And you know that it will take a while before you are back in your rhythm and at your level. And now he is thrown back again.”

Van de Beek’s United career has just not got off the ground even when he could hardly ask for a better manager than Ten Hag to have come in.

It was looking like this transfer window may see Van de Beek move on for the good of his career, but if this injury is as serious as it looks, that will not be happening.

Van de Beek will need to embark on an injury comeback to try and get his fitness and confidence back, which is another blow to a player who has had it tough since he left Ajax for United.

We await confirmation on an official prognosis for Van de Beek, hoping for the best.
