Video: Wout Weghorst left two Manchester United players for dead with superb skill

Wout Weghorst may soon be lining up alongside the likes of Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay at Manchester United.

He has been linked with a move to Old Trafford and that interest seemed to move quickly, although United do need to do a fairly complex negotiation with Burnley.

The Dutch striker joined the Clarets last January, and played against United the following month, the only time he has faced us in his career.

He produced an assist for Jay Rodriguez in a game which ended up as a 1-1 draw, between two sides who have since changed managers.

Weghorst left Maguire and McTominay for dead

Maguire and McTominay were both on the pitch then, as they were regular starters under Ralf Rangnick, while Erik ten Hag has made them more into squad players.

Weghorst left them both for dead in the lead-up to the goal, when the ball went into his feet with Maguire on his back.

McTominay tried to double up on Weghorst to help his captain out, but the Dutchman got away from the pair of them in an instant with an outstanding turn.

You can see the video below, which may offer some idea of why Ten Hag wants to bring the towering 6ft 6in striker to Old Trafford.

It shows his technical ability, and perhaps one reason it did not work out at Burnley is because they wanted someone they could play to in the air and down the channels.

But Weghorst has the cliched good feet for a big man and was an impressive and regular goalscorer at Wolfsburg before coming to England.

If United were getting him direct from the Bundesliga, there would likely be more excitement about his potential arrival.

But the spell at Burnley which did not go to plan and the subsequent loan to Turkey raise more doubts, but Ten Hag has not got it wrong in the transfer market yet at United.
