'A dream': Exciting defender admits he wants to sign for Manchester United

Highly-rated Russian defender Aleksandr Mukhin has indicated that his ‘dream’ is to move to the Premier League with Manchester United.

Speaking to Sport24, Mukhin says a move away from Russia to England is his career goal.

While a new centre-half is likely to be right at the top of Erik ten Hag’s summer wishlist – the likes of Axel Disasi and Jurrien Timber reportedly high on the radar – 20-year-old Mukhin has a long way to go before catching the eye of one of the planet’s elite footballing institutions.

Then again, left-footed centre-halves are all the rage these days. Mukhin’s youth, potential and left-footedness should do his chances of earning a big break no harm at all, even if the former Russia U18 international still has a lot to learn.

“My goals? To play in the RPL (Russian Premier League). And then, sometime later, England,” says Mukhin, who joined FC Ufa on loan from parent club Rostov during the January transfer window.

When quizzed on his desire to end up at Old Trafford, Mukhin added that a potential move to Man United ‘is now the most desirable thing’.

“To get into the Premier League (is a) dream. More precisely – the goal to which you need to go for,” Mukhin adds.

Reflecting on the political situation in Russia, he reflected: “Whether it is realistic to achieve now, I do not know. Maybe later, when everything settles down. Maybe it will only get worse, I don’t know. These things are not for us to decide.”

Mukhin has so far only played six times in Russia’s top flight, all of those appearances coming for Rostov. He signed a new contract until the summer of 2026 in December. As such, Rostov would be under no pressure to cash in should any interest emerge during the upcoming transfer window.

United’s focus, however, is firmly fixed upon a more experienced centre-half; one with a proven track record at a high level in European football. Monaco powerhouse Disasi, the Daily Mail say, could set United back around £44 million.

Initial talks with the France international began back in January.
