4 cheaper striking alternatives for Manchester United this summer: Including £42m ace and free agent

Here are three cheaper striking alternatives to Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen that Manchester United could sign in the summer transfer window.

It’s no secret to the footballing world that Erik ten Hag‘s side are in for a striker in the summer. They have severely lacked goals in attacking areas this season.

Anthony Martial is always injured and Wout Weghorst is certainly not up to the standard a United striker should be. We have heavily relied on Marcus Rashford, however when the Englishman isn’t firing – goals are few and far between.

This is why the likes of Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen have been heavily speculated as Manchester United arrivals. However, one thing is for certain, they won’t come cheap. So, with this – here are three cheaper alternatives Manchester United could seek out when the window opens.

Jonathan David

The Canadian hasn’t been speculated with a move anywhere as of yet but has had a fantastic season with Lille.

He currently sits on 22 goals this campaign in Ligue 1, with only Alexandre Lacazette and Kylian Mbappe ahead of him.

David would work well in a pacey United front three. His ability to shoot with both feet would also be extremely useful for a player down the middle.

It isn’t essential but the fact the 23-year-old speaks fluent English will also mean its easier for him to integrate into the side.

According to SportsMole, the striker’s asking price is around £43m. A significant amount less than that of Kane and Osimhen.

Marcus Thuram

Talking of cheaper alternatives, how about a player for absolutely free?

Marcus Thuram has had a sublime season with Borussia Monchengladbach. But, he has made the decision himself that he wants a new challenge, confirming an exit.

Thuram could be a good shout alongside another striker. The acquisition would free up room for another expensive forward to come in.

This could mean the two potentially compete for the striker’s slot for the 23/24 season. Nothing like a good bit of healthy competition.

This is a no-brainer, however, United will have to fight for him of a plethora of European sides.

Benjamin Sesko

Finally, a player that was heavily linked last summer, Benjamin Sesko.

The towering 6’4 forwards boisterous nature would suit him to the Premier League indefinitely.

He also possesses lightning speed which, when you look at United’s current side, is something the Red Devils are severely lacking.

He is also just 19 years of age. This means he could be a phenomenal investment if we’re able to obtain many years out of the Slovenian forward.

According to the Express, his asking price in August 2022 was around £42m. So, we’ll have to see if this figure has risen given another fine season at Red Bull Salzburg.

Rasmus Hojlund

Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund is reported by The Times to be on Manchester United’s shortlist.

The 20-year-old has scored 18 times for club and country this season and is viewed as the best young player in Serie A.

The young Dane is valued at around £40 million and is even claimed to be a Manchester United fan.
