Manchester United are still claimed to be keen on Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat but the 2022 World Cup star feels he would be better suited to La Liga than the Premier League.
That is, at least, according to a man who speaks from a position of authority on the midfielder’s future.
Nordin Amrabat, Sofyan’s older brother, confirmed a few months back that Manchester United had seen a loan bid rejected by Fiorentina during the January transfer window.
Now speaking to Ziggo Sport amid claims that Erik ten Hag is stepping up his pursuit of the tough-tackling 26-year-old, Nordin’s latest update will once again serve to only frustrate those hoping to see arguably the Qatar World Cup’s biggest breakthrough talent bring his bone-rattling challenges to Old Trafford (Sport).
“I have told him that La Liga is better (for him). And he agrees with me on this,” says the former Watford winger. “I think it’s a style of football that’s better for him, where he would do better.”
Manchester United could miss out on Sofyan Amrabat
Barcelona are big fans of Amrabat. Head coach Xavi has also confirmed that a midfielder is his top priority following the departure of Sergio Busquets.
But is there a club which suits the sweat-shedding, ankle-biting Amrabat more than Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid?
“In La Liga, Atletico Madrid appreciate him,” Nordin adds.
“Why he can he not handle the top level? He proved himself at the World Cup. If you are one of the best against Belgium, Croatia, France, Portugal and Spain, then you can handle the level.
“With Feyenoord, he also played a good match against Manchester City in the Champions League. He has now proven that he can handle it.”
Manchester United likely view the £35 million-rated Amrabat as an understudy for Casemiro. And potentially an affordable alternative to the likes of Declan Rice.
“We received more than one offer during the winter window,” Mohammed Sinouh, Amrabat’s agent, tells Kora Plus. “Including one from Manchester United.
“The negotiation was not completed. The president of Fiorentina (Rocco Commisso) absolutely refused to let him leave at that moment. He represented value for the team, especially after what he did in the World Cup.”
