6 biggest winners as Manchester United beat Leeds United 2-0

Manchester United kick-started their preseason with a 2-0 win against Leeds United in Oslo, with six players making huge waves.

The first-half began quickly with United racking up possession and also having a few sights of goal.

Hannibal Mejbri should’ve converted his chance following Amad Diallo’s pass while Mason Mount saw his audacious chip graze the roof of the net, narrowly going over the bar.

The second-half began with a complete change in line-up which resulted in United securing the win with goals from Noam Emeran and Joe Hugill.

Here are the six winners from Manchester United’s preseason victory over Leeds…

Kobbie Mainoo

Kobbie Mainoo looked completely at home in the first team from the very first minute. He was calm, composed and consistently made the right decision. His impressive mental qualities were complimented by his technical ability and top vision along with his passing range.

He set the tone in the first 10 seconds almost putting Amad Diallo through with a wonderful pass. He needs to be involved in the first team this season, and is a good bet to be our breakout player of the year.

Alvaro Fernandez

Like Mainoo, Alvaro Fernandez took to the first eleven like a duck to water looking immediately comfortable at the level. He played the Luke Shaw role extremely well, inverting and having the quality to make a difference on the ball, a special talent.

He seems to have adapted quickly to Erik ten Hag’s demands and has impressed on the first time of asking. While a route to first team football is less clear for him, another few impressive performances and he could force himself into the managers plans.

Amad Diallo

Amad Diallo has one mission this pre-season and that is to show ten Hag that he is ready to be a Manchester United player and can be excellent competition for Antony. He started this plan well here against Leeds, undoubtedly the danger-man, Amad should’ve had an assist with Hannibal missing a one-on-one.

Consistently cutting inside off the right onto his left-foot, he gave the Leeds defence something to consider and was a constant threat with his direct running and on another day one of his shots could easily have nestled in the top corner.

Matej Kovar

With the goalkeeping situation at Old Trafford up in the air this summer Matej Kovar has certainly threw his name in the hat to be given a shot as the club’s number two, with the expected arrival of Andre Onana the number one.

Kovar showed himself to be a great ball-playing goalkeeper who is also confident enough to come out and claim crosses as well as sweeping. United don’t need to sign two goalkeepers this summer when they have this guy waiting in the wings.

Noam Emeran

Noam Emeran took his chance, scoring the opening goal, after he latched onto Isak Hansen-Aarøen’s through ball (another player deserving of praise). His finish was so calm and compose almost Marcus Rashford-esque in the technique.

It is great to see a young player take his chance to impress the boss and put himself in contention to start next Wednesday against Lyon.

Joe Hugill

The second goalscorer, Joe Hugill is another who showcased his worth to Ten Hag as he showed his clinical and instinctive striking to score the second goal to make it 2-0. Hugill has the perfect opportunity right now, with no established striker currently in favour and fit at United.

He could be a real option to play next Wednesday with Jadon Sancho failing to impress as a striker today. Definitely something for Ten Hag to consider now especially with United so publicly searching for a striker, is Hugill ready?
