'A few errors': Man United target slammed by fans after big mistake

Manchester United’s goalkeeper target Altay Bayindir is coming under fire from Fenerbahce supporters as the Premier League giants continue to scour the market for a second-choice shot-stopper.

With Harry Maguire’s £30 million move to West Ham seemingly stalling, Benjamin Pavard could be in for a nervy few weeks as the Bayern Munich defender looks to secure that dream move to Old Trafford. Manchester United, after all, will only step up their pursuit of Pavard if – or when – Maguire goes.

The Red Devils also find themselves in a similar situation with regards to their hounding of a new back-up goalkeeper. Dean Henderson, like Maguire, finds himself in limbo; one foot out the door but the other still at Carrington.

According to the Daily Mail, Man United have scouted out Fenerbahce’s Turkey international Altay Bayindir as a potential replacement should Henderson return to Nottingham Forest. But this is another deal, a la Pavard’s, reliant upon one member of Erik ten Hag’s squad first making way.

Altay Bayindir’s Manchester United move in limbo

Bayindir, in the meantime, may not be doing his chances of securing a potentially life-changing switch to England’s north west much good. As reported by NTV Spor, the 25-year-old came in for his fair share of criticism after spilling a very saveable shot into his own net during Fenerbahce’s nervy 2-1 win over Gazientep over the weekend.

And Fener coach Ismael Kartal – while attempting to shield his goalkeeper from the glare of the microscope – made no secret of the fact that he expects better.

“We should not go over this subject too much. Altay is a valuable player. We have to protect him,” Kartal said.

“It is easy to lose, the important thing is to win. We will continue to support Altay. He is our goalkeeper. There seems to be a few positional errors this evening.

“It will be discussed. We will evaluate them internally.”

In addition to Bayindir – who could be available for a bargain £5 million – Man United have also looked at Rangers’ Robby McCrorie, Feyenoord’s Justin Bijlow and Sint Truiden’s Japanese glovesman Zion Suzuki.

Zion Suzuki snubs Old Trafford switch

A superb passer as well as a fine shot-stopper; Suzuki admitted to turning down the Red Devils in favour of more regular first-team minutes in Belgium.

“It is true that there was an offer from Manchester United,” Suzuki says, via Goal.

“Of course, I would like to go to Manchester United. But I really want to spend time thinking about what kind of future awaits me. After much thought, I made this decision (to go to Belgium instead).”

Manchester United have signed (Andre) Onana,” Suzuki adds. “I’m aiming for the first-team. I’m aiming for the World Cup and, after that, I’m aiming to be the best in the world.

“The (Belgian) league is of a very high level.”
