Report: Fiorentina want to sign £6.8m PL midfielder as Amrabat ‘waiting’ for Manchester United move

Manchester United want to sign Sofyan Amrabat and his club Fiorentina have lined up a move for a Premier League midfielder.

United fans knew another midfielder was needed this summer; maybe the club’s hierarchy will really push for that now.

Erik ten Hag has started the season with an unconvincing 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers and a 2-0 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur.

A key factor in both of those games was poor midfield play.

Wolves cut through the middle of the pitch far too easily and United were chasing shadows against Yves Bissouma, Pape Matar Sarr and James Maddison on Saturday.

The midfield trio of Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount hasn’t impressed so far and another option is needed.

Manchester United want Sofyan Amrabat

The top target for that has been Sofyan Amrabat with links to the Fiorentina ace going on for a while now.

Erik ten Hag knows Amrabat from their time together at Utrecht and a reunion makes perfect sense.

Amrabat is the kind of combative midfielder United need for certain games, offering either an option alongside Casemiro or cover for the Brazilian.

The problem is that United haven’t yet struck a deal for Amrabat.

Fabrizio Romano reported just a few days that Amrabat accepted a move to United in late June but has been ‘waiting and waiting’ for nearly two months now.

United may need to offload Donny van de Beek to make a deal happen and the Dutchman’s exit doesn’t seem imminent.

Fiorentina line up Premier League midfielder

Fiorentina haven’t yet cashed in on Amrabat but are already looking to sign a new midfielder.

The Telegraph report that Fiorentina are fighting Sevilla in the race for Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Steven Alzate.

Fiorentina are thought to have lodged an enquiry for Alzate with an €8million (£6.8million) deal potentially in the pipeline.

The Serie A club moving in for a new midfielder will leave tongues wagging in belief that this means Amrabat is on his way out.

Liverpool are also keen on Amrabat though and we can only hope that Saturday’s poor showing sparks United into life over the Moroccan, especially with Fiorentina now trying to sign a new midfielder of their own.
