Furious fans slammed Andre Onana and are baffled at how he replaced David de Gea after the Manchester United shot-stopper’s howler against Bayern Munich.
United came out confidently against Bayern and played well in the opening 20 minutes of their Champions League clash at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday.
However, the Red Devils’ momentum took a massive blow after Onana’s shocking error allowed Leroy Sane to fire Thomas Tuchel’s men into a first-half lead.
Former Manchester City star Sane cut in from the right and played a one-two with Harry Kane before unleashing his first-time strike from outside of the box.
The 27-year-old German winger’s shot was low and quite central, but Onana was unable to keep the ball out of the United net as it squeezed right under him.

United fans unhappy with Onana blunder
One fan posted: “De Gea at home watching United, laughing at Onana. United deserve this after the way they treated De Gea. He kept United respectable when everyone else was diabolical!”
Another tweeted: “I will never understand how United fans concluded that De Gea, who had the most clean sheets last season, was their major problem. They’ve replaced him with Onana and their team looks two times worse.”
While a third added: “Onana is shambolic, I miss De Gea now, man…”
“Our biggest mistake this season is signing Andre Onana and [letting] De Gea [leave],” a Twitter (X) user posted.
Someone else commented: “Best part of £50million spent to replace De Gea, yet Onana is making equally horrendous, costly howlers.”
And one fan said: “De Gea blunders were okay. Onana can’t even save his own career right now.”
A seventh fan simply stated: “Imagine De Gea doing the mistakes Onana is doing. [There] would’ve been riots against him.”
Onana to face more pressure now
Some United fans were unhappy that De Gea was allowed to leave the club in the summer, especially after winning the Golden Glove award last season.
De Gea left Old Trafford at the end of the season after contract talks with United broke down, with Erik ten Hag subsequently bringing in Onana as his successor.
Onana, who arrived in an initial £43.8m deal from Inter Milan, previously played under Ten Hag at Ajax and was preferred by the United boss for his style of play.
However, the 27-year-old Cameroon international has come under intense pressure in the early stages of the season after conceding so many shots between the sticks.
United manager Ten Hag will now face a tough task in protecting an under-fire Onana after the former Ajax and Inter star’s latest blunder against Bayern.
