Man United fans all saying same thing on ‘new man’ after superb performance against Crystal Palace

Manchester United summer signing Mason Mount has been hailed by fans as a “pressing machine” after his “fantastic” performance against Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening.

Mount was met with early criticism at United this season after his initial £55m, plus £5m in add-ons, transfer from Premier League rivals Chelsea in the summer.

The 24-year-old United star started in the Red Devils’ opening two Premier League matches against Wolves and Tottenham before he was sidelined through injury.

United manager Erik ten Hag hinted that Mount, who returned to training this month after recovering from his injury, could feature in his side’s Carabao Cup title defence.

United fans rave about Mount

Mount was immediately thrust back into the United XI against Crystal Palace and the former Chelsea star impressed fans with his performance at Old Trafford.

Alejandro Garnacho opened the scoring for United in the first half before Casemiro fired in a header past Sam Johnstone after connecting with a superb Mount corner.

“I have been wrong about Mason Mount all this [time]. He is on form today,” one fan posted.

Someone else commented: “Mason Mount’s looking fantastic so far. Him and Hannibal in midfield are working very well.”

A third added: “Mason Mount looks happy, healthy and free of them Chelsea shackles with the way he’s playing today.”

“Mason Mount is like a new man here tonight,” a fourth fan wrote.

While one X, AKA Twitter, user tweeted: “Many people are going to owe Mason Mount an apology come the end of the season. Mark my words.”

And one fan said: “Mason Mount is a pressing machine, man! Don’t stop running!”

Another simply posted: “Mason Mount is having fun out there. Playing beautifully.”

Huge boost in confidence for Mount

Mount came off at half-time, having been replaced by Victor Lindelof, but Ten Hag will no doubt be happy with his player’s first-half performance.

The England international should walk away from the Carabao Cup tie with an uplift in confidence, especially after the criticism that has been levelled at him so far.

Ten Hag is a big admirer of Mount and did not want United to end their pursuit of the player in the summer, irrespective of Chelsea’s hardball tactics over a fee.

Mount’s performance against Crystal Palace showed why the United boss has kept faith in him, but he must now establish himself as a regular in the starting XI going forward.
