How two Premier League clubs could hold the key to Man Utd's Aurelien Tchouameni pursuit

Manchester United are showing plenty of ambition by targeting Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni, with many factors needing to fall into place for a deal to materialise.

Before Aurelien Tchouameni signed for Real Madrid, he was a highly sought-after prospect, already making a name for himself in the France national team alongside Paul Pogba.

United wanted to sign Tchouameni from AS Monaco before he opted to join Real Madrid. Since then, he has blossomed into one of the best defensive midfielders in world football after helping Los Blancos replace Casemiro.

That is the task United face this summer, with Casemiro’s exit planned for the end of the season. The Brazilian will leave Old Trafford, leaving United with the job of revamping the midfield department. It remains to be seen who will be arriving to fill the void he leaves.

Real Madrid targets spark doubt over Aurelien Tchouameni’s future

Real Madrid are being linked with two Premier League midfielders this summer as they also look to revamp their team after recent shortcomings.

Among Real Madrid’s targets are Man City’s Rodri and Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez. The latter recently flirted with the idea of moving to the Spanish capital before receiving a suspension from Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior.

United’s pursuit of Tchouameni is ambitious at best, but it holds some substance if Real Madrid decides to spend big on either Rodri or Fernandez.

Granted, Rodri is entering his final year at City, while Fernandez has a long-term deal at Stamford Bridge, which will prove costly.

According to the Manchester Evening News, United’s chances of signing Tchouameni could hinge on whether the Spanish giants land a big-name replacement, with Rodri and Fernandez among the players being looked at.

That means City and Chelsea could end up holding the key that either unlocks or prevents United from moving for Tchouameni.

However, worth noting is Real Madrid’s stance on Tchouameni. Los Blancos don’t currently intend to sell the France international this summer, but he could be part of a squad reshuffle at the Bernabeu.

Club president Florentino Perez is understood to be a big admirer of Tchouameni and it remains to be seen what is valuation will be in the current market.

It’s also worth noting that Tchouameni isn’t the only option being considered by United this summer.

United are also looking at Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton.

It’s up to Ineos to make the right decision because the midfield area has been ignored – in terms of being a priority – for far too long.

How Aurelien Tchouameni compares to Casemiro this season

If Tchouameni joins United this summer, at least he knows what it takes to be in a midfield transitioning from life with Casemiro.

That doesn’t mean Tchouameni will be at ease in the Premier League, which is the hard part. United want to avoid another Pogba situation, where an expensive French midfielder never fulfilled his promise at Old Trafford.

That brings us to an interesting dive into how Tchouameni has performed this season, compared to Casemiro.

Casemiro has played more games (31) in the league than Tchouameni (29), but the United midfielder also has significant numbers for goals (8-1), assists (2-0), and chances created (32-22).

Tchouameni ranks higher in terms of passes completed (1526-1162), with a passing accuracy of 91.49%. He also wins more aerial duels with a 73.56% success rate.

Casemiro has won eight more overall duels this season, whereas Tchouameni has made more interceptions.

They’ve both been given eight yellow cards, although Tchouameni has not been shown a red card, unlike Casemiro.
