97 per cent pass accuracy, 3 key passes: Manchester United ace puts in dominant display v Brentford

Manchester United came from behind to beat Brentford on Saturday, with Sofyan Amrabat being extremely impressive in victory.

Scott McTominay, who replaced Sofyan Amrabat, is the man of the moment for Manchester United after his two goals secured three points.

But before his withdrawal, Amrabat doing an unbelievable job in defensive midfield.

Casemiro was hooked off at half-time which left Amrabat as the lone defensive midfielder for the first time since his arrival, and he was great.

So good in possession and quick and smart enough to avoid being caught on the counter, a world away from the performances of our Brazilian lately.

Amrabat impressive

Amrabat was Manchester United’s unsung hero in the game and a huge part of the second half improvement. His on-ball security and mobility made him a far better option to be the lone defensive midfielder than Casemiro in this game.

This can be seen in his stats as per SofaScore, playing until the 87th minute, Amrabat boasted an impressive 97% passing accuracy from 64 attempted passes.

Amrabat was hugely involved with 75 touches for United, starting attacks and helping recycle possession, a player that has been sorely missed at this club.

However, he also completed three key passes which shows he is also capable of make incisive passes further up the pitch.

His mobility saw him easily able to prevent Brentford from escaping the United pressure as he covered every area of the pitch needed to deny transitions.

Casemiro’s spot could be in jeopardy

Hooking the number 18 off at half-time is a clear sign that Erik ten Hag wasn’t pleased with what he had seen. Casemiro gave the ball away for the opening goal, which likely played a part in his removal.

But after his substitution, United looked far better, more coherent and secure in midfield which will have Ten Hag thinking if this might be the way forward.

Casemiro no doubt still has a role to play at the club, but right now his best place could be on the bench.
