Former Man Utd man's horror start at new club continues - he was booed off at full-time

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has not had the best of starts to life as Birmingham City manager.

Manchester United‘s club record top scorer was appointed earlier this month. He put pen to paper on a three-and-a-half-year contract.

Rooney is supported by Ashley Cole and John O’Shea – alongside Carl Robinson and Pete Shuttleworth who both assisted Rooney at DC United, to which he recently left his position.

But after the nightmare start he’s had, he may be wishing he stayed put in the United States.

Wayne Rooney terrible start at Birmingham

So far, Wayne Rooney has played been in charge of two games at Birmingham – which have ended in two defeats.

The first fixture was last Saturday against Michael Carrick‘s Middlesbrough side. The midfielder came out on top with a 1-0 victory.

Rooney then had another fixture on Wednesday, which was a terrible performance.

They were comfortably beaten at home 2-0 by Hull City. This was Birmingham’s fifth loss of the season, which puts them down to 12th in the Championship.

The pressure is certainly already on for Rooney. The Blues fans made their thoughts known following the defeat to the Tigers.

Wayne Rooney booed off by Birmingham fans

Videos quickly circulated of the 38-year-old being booed off the pitch.

The United legend acknowledged the angry reaction in his postmatch conference.

“That’s part of football,” Rooney said postmatch. “You need to win football games to change that. As I said yesterday, the former manager was very popular here and did a good job.

“It’s what you want, what you want in terms of, do you want to be where the club has been for 10 years or do you want to move forward?

“And sometimes there’s a bedding in period while we are asking the players to do different things. I can deal with that. That’s part of the game. That’s part of my job. It’s not an issue for me.”

Fair play from Rooney. You have to roll with the punches. It’s hard coming into a club that was struggling anyway. He was scrutinized before he even had a minute at the helm.

We hope for his sake things get better – and fast.
