Manchester United summer signing's next transfer is already being plotted out

Manchester United and Premier League newcomer Altay Bayindir is already being tipped for a return to Turkey but not with Fenerbahce.

Murat Asik, the son of former Fenerbahce president Metin Asik, always had his doubts about whether Altay Bayindir would emulate the legendary Volkan Demirel and spend virtually the entirety of his career defending the goal at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium.

And, as far as he is concerned, Bayindir’s £4.3 million move to Manchester United during the final few weeks of the summer transfer window was justification for those doubts.

“For two years, I had said that Altay would not be a Volkan Demirel or a ‘flag bearer’ for Fenerbahçe. At that time, I was receiving phone calls from the management. They were angry (with me for saying that),” Asik tells GS Gazete. “In the end, I was right.”

Manchester United land Altay Bayindir

Bayindir spent just four years at Fenerbahce, in stark contrast to Demirel’s 17.

And Asik is convinced that, should the 6ft 6ins Turkey international return to his homeland later down the line, he will find himself on the other side of one of European football’s most fierce rivalries.

“Now, is there a possibility of him returning to Fenerbahce? No. He will be transferred to Galatasaray in the coming years,” Asik predicts. “(Iconic former Gala coach) Fatih Terim wanted him very much when he was playing for Ankaragucu.”

Bayindir, brought in as a back-up for Andre Onana after discussions over Justin Bijlow, Zion Suzuki and Odysseas Vlachodimos stalled, is yet to make his debut under Erik ten Hag at Manchester United.

‘Makes a very good impression’

Nonetheless, thee United boss has been impressed by what he has seen from Bayindir behind the scenes at Carrington. Opportunities likely to come his way if Onana cannot respond from an error-strewn start.

“(Bayindir) makes a very good impression in training,” Ten Hag said of Altay recently. “He’s really developing. Progressing.

“So we’re very happy with that. We are convinced we have the two right goalkeepers in our squad to do the job for us.”
