Report: Man United 'considering' move for £45m Prem misfit Ferdinand called 'unbelievable'

Manchester United are reportedly ‘considering a move’ to sign the £45 million-rated Trevoh Chalobah after the defender was informed he has no future at the club by Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino.

The prospect of Manchester United stumping up an eye-watering fee for a man who can’t even get into Chelsea’s starting XI – a club who would make the Red Devils look like a picture of consistency and stability by contrast – is bound to raise eyebrows.

Trevoh Chalobah, after all, hasn’t played a single minute of football this season. Forced into exile after turning down a summer departure from Stamford Bridge.

He would rather stay and fight for his place, but that decision appears to have been taken out of his hands. TEAMtalk report that Chelsea boss Pochettino has made it clear that the 24-year-old is not part of his plans.

The size and the stature of the clubs hot on Chalobah’s heels, however, speak to how highly the former England U21 international is regarded in some quarters.

TEAMtalk add that Borussia Dortmund are ‘extremely interested’. As are a Bayern Munich side who’s head coach, Thomas Tuchel, took an immediate liking to Chalobah during his time in West London.

The Sierra Leone-born stopper would prefer to stay in England should the opportunity arise, however, meaning he is likely to be very receptive to the idea of reuniting with former Chelsea team-mate Mason Mount at Man United.

The Red Devils are eyeing a bunch of potential centre-back targets. Goncalo Inacio, Antonio Silva and Giorgio Scalvini among them. Chalobah’s proven track record in Premier League football, however, could appeal to the United bosses. Ditto his tactical and positional flexibility, Chalobah capable of filling a variety of spots in Erik ten Hag’s injury-hit backline.

Ferdinand hailed Chalobah’s ‘unbelievable’ display

“I watched him in the Super Cup game,” United legend Rio Ferdinand said on the FIVE YouTube channel after Chalobah’s imperious display against Villarreal back in 2021.

“Massively impressed with him, the way he defended. He had three or four big moments defensively where he pulled the hat out of the bag.  It was unbelievable.”
