Manchester United head to Turkey this week for a crucial match with Galatasaray this week, and one of the club’s most expensive ever signings won’t be involved.
Jadon Sancho, 23, has not been part of a Manchester United squad for the past three months now. His future at Old Trafford looks to be done.
Sancho has fallen out with manager Erik ten Hag, showing an apparent lack of willingness to make amends, with ESPN reporting he refuses to apologise to his manager after his social media outburst.
The winger had disagreed with Ten Hag’s comments that Sancho had not trained to the required standard. It has all spiraled out of control since.
Has Jadon Sancho learned
This situation is hugely frustrating for Manchester United fans who wanted Jadon Sancho to succeed, no doubt for his manager too, who was trying to bring a positive reaction out of him, and has tried the ‘arm around the shoulder approach’.
But it also places questions towards Manchester United’s recruitment department, who were not put off by the red flags over Sancho, which saw him publicly called out by Dortmund’s sporting director Michael Zorc.
Almost exactly four years ago, Sancho was given a warning, via The Sun, with Zorc explaining: “Jadon is still in the process of growing up and perfecting professional behaviour.
“So he needs guidelines and help, and we’ll give him that. You have no choice – you have to maintain team discipline. It’s not just about the players, it’s about the club.”
This came after he was twice dropped by the club, which cited disciplinary issues.
Sancho eventually was able to get on board with Dortmund’s demands, and turned his fortunes around on the pitch with superb performances which saw him break records for goals and assists, and attract Manchester United’s attention.
But here we are, in late 2023, with Sancho now ostracised at Manchester United, with the club seemingly given up on him, amid the player’s lack of willingness to fight for his future.
Manchester United failure will hang over Sancho
Sancho has plenty of time to turn his career around, and he certainly has the talent. But this is now the third club in succession where issues have been raised.
Back at City, Sancho refused to turn up to training after he was dropped amid issues over his contract, the Evening Standard reports.
Now at a third club in a row, issues have persisted with Sancho. Manchester United hoped he had grown out of them at Dortmund.
No doubt about it, Sancho’s time at Manchester United has been a failure, and he will carry this around with him. He can use it to inspire him on to greatness, or let it weigh on him. The choice is down to him.
