Pundit Alan Shearer believes that struggling Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford ‘looks very unhappy’ right now.
Manchester United claimed a Premier League win on Saturday afternoon, beating Luton Town 1-0 at Old Trafford.
Victor Lindelof popped up with the winner, firing home from inside the penalty area in the second half.
United still don’t look particularly fluent going forward, but it’s now four wins in the last five Premier League games.
Erik ten Hag will feel a little more positive about United than much of the media are right now, but he will still have concerns about Marcus Rashford.
Alan Shearer delivers Marcus Rashford verdict
Rashford had a hand in Lindelof’s winner but still looks well short of last season’s form.
The 26-year-old has only managed one Premier League goal in 11 games this season and hasn’t found the net in four Champions League games.
Rashford took a big step forward last season but now appears to be regressing again – at least in a United shirt.
Rashford was excellent for England in the last international break, scoring a superb goal against Italy.
Pundit Alan Shearer has now told Optus Sport that he thinks Rashford looks like a ‘different player’ in an England shirt.
Shearer believes that Rashford is ‘very unhappy’ at United right now, suggesting that he ‘looks moody’ on the pitch.
Shearer wonders whether Rashford feels that he is better than what United are showing, but is seemingly worried about the United attacker’s happiness.
“What we’re looking at is someone who clearly looks very unhappy. He looks moody and when that’s the case you’re never going to perform at your best,” said Shearer. “Whether he feels he’s better than what’s at Old Trafford at this moment of time, I don’t know. Whether he feels let down by recruitment because he went to another level in terms of his goals last year, the club haven’t gone to it this season which maybe he wanted or expected it to.”
“But you’re not seeing a happy footballer. You’re not seeing a happy person at this moment of time in Marcus Rashford. He looks a different player for England than he does for Manchester United,” he added.
One goal could turn it all for Rashford
Rashford didn’t exactly start last season in blistering form either.
Three goals in the first 11 Premier League games wasn’t much better than Rashford’s current record this season.
Rashford then scored against West Ham United at the end of October and didn’t look back, going on a run of 11 goals in his next 13 games across all competitions.
That is just how it goes for attacking players sometimes; the goals dry up and the confidence drains.
We know how good Rashford can be, he just needs to keep doing the right things – getting in the right positions, making the right runs, keeping active in the final third.
One goal could set Rashford on a goalscoring run again and we can only hope to see a happier Rashford moving forward.
