Sir Jim Ratcliffe has the biggest point to prove for all with Ineos in Manchester United’s latest summer transfer window after his previous powerful admission.
The Ineos regime has already had a ‘soft reset’ with the managerial role after Michael Carrick permanently succeeded Ruben Amorim in the Old Trafford hot seat.
However, Sir Jim Ratcliffe already laid down an important foundation during Ruben Amorim’s ill-fated Man Utd reign after last summer’s successful transfer window.
Manchester United fans were left deeply surprised by the Red Devils’ acquisitions of Bryan Mbeumo, Senne Lammens, Benjamin Sesko and Matheus Cunha.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe sent a statement of intent about Man Utd’s transition period and the stakes were high for Ineos
Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos have been rightfully criticised for some of the decisions they have made at Manchester United, including the rise in ticket prices.
However, the 73-year-old British billionaire has shifted the narrative around Man Utd’s reputation in business transfers since last summer’s spending spree.
Despite the recruitment in 2025, United fans were still left deeply sceptical over whether Ineos could repeat their fortunes again in this summer’s window.
Ratcliffe, who became United co-owner in 2024, could not have been more transparent with Red Devils supporters with the challenge that Ineos faced.
“It takes time for us to move away from the past into a new place in the future,” he said in a BBC Sport interview in 2025.
The Ineos chief’s sentiments were further amplified by the scale of the task at Ineos’ hand, including the importance of the “transformation” period that he anticipated.
“Some are not good enough and some probably are overpaid, but for us to mould the squad that we are fully responsible for, and accountable for, will take time,” Ratcliffe added.
“We’ve got this period of transformation where we move from the past to the future.
“There are some great players in the squad, as we know, the captain is a fabulous footballer. We definitely need Bruno [Fernandes], he’s a fantastic footballer.”
Ineos’ summer transfer business is where Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s message to Man Utd fans could show potential or fully crack
Ineos already faced criticism early in the summer over the speed at which they were acting in the transfer market amid other Premier League clubs’ spending sprees.
The Ederson deal to United emerged early in June before the transfer fell apart in July, which sparked major concerns from Red Devils supporters over Ineos.
Fast-forward only days after Ineos’ failed bid to sign Ederson and Man Utd have confirmed the signing of midfielder Andrey Santos from Chelsea.
On top of Andrey Santos completing his move to Man Utd on Monday, it has now emerged that the Red Devils are closing in on a deal for Youri Tielemans.
Karl Darlow is also set to arrive at Old Trafford this summer as a back-up shot-stopper after his contract with Premier League side Leeds United expired.
Ineos are making all the right moves again this summer and it feels that Ratcliffe’s ‘transformation’ claim is becoming clearer with each passing moment.
