Manchester United star praises Erik ten Hag and says he expects contract extension to be activated

Victor Lindelof has said that his Manchester United teammates still back Erik ten Hag despite the club’s rocky start to the season.

After Victor Lindelof netted the winner for Manchester United against Luton Town and was named in the BBC team of the week, the Red Devils jumped up to fifth in the division and are five points behind the top four in the Premier League.

The pressure was beginning to build on Erik ten Hag following United’s dismal 4-3 defeat to Danish side FC Copenhagen in the Champions League, but things seem to be on the up again.

7 wins from 12 in the Premier League is not great form for the Red Devils but they are the most in-form side in the league at the moment which really should embarrass the rest of the division.

Lindelof on Ten Hag

Speaking to FotbalSkanalen, the Swedish defender gave his verdict on Ten Hag after he was directly asked whether he and his teammates still back the Dutchman to turn things around at Old Trafford.

Lindelof denied that Ten Hag had lost the dressing room according to the Swedish outlet.

“It has been tough, of course. In terms of performances, it has been up and down, we haven’t quite reached the level we wanted,” he said.

“And there will always be a lot written about a club like Manchester United. Other teams have been praised for their start to the season, but we are still only four or five points behind, I don’t know exactly. It’s not terribly bad, but certainly not at the level we want to be/”

Sweden take on Azerbaijan and Estonia over the next few days in what will be the final international games before the turn of the year.

Lindelof’s future

As well as publicly backing his manager, the 29-year-old was asked about his own future as he is one of a number of United players approaching the final year of their contract.

The defender does have the option to extend his contract with the Old Trafford club and when asked whether he thought it would be extended, he said: “There I get to see what happens. There is an option and it will most likely be activated.”

Lindelof and United return from international duty with a tough fixture away against Sean Dyche’s Everton awaiting them.
