16-year-old United prospect described as 'Cole Palmer in disguise' spotted in first-team training

Manchester United’s FA Youth Cup star Jack Fletcher has been spotted in first-team training yet again for the Red Devils.

After starring against Derby County in the FA Youth Cup, which Manchester United last won in 2022 against Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford, Jack Fletcher looks set to earn more first-team opportunities if he carries on his progression through the ranks.

Fletcher, 16, really impressed against the East Midlands side, and the midfielder, who is the son of former United hero Darren Fletcher, certainly looks the part.

Erik ten Hag has given regular first-team chances to Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho, who starred the last time the Red Devils won the competition, and Fletcher could be next in line.

Fletcher’s high potential

After impressing against Derby, fans were becoming excited about the prospect they had on their hands with the technical quality and the poise on the ball making him a real threat.

Teammate Gabriele Biancheri even dubbed him ‘Cole Palmer in disguise’ after the FA Youth Cup win, referencing the midfielder signed by Chelsea for £40 million this summer.

Fletcher has taken part in multiple sessions this season and he arrived at the club in the summer after signing from Manchester City with his twin brother Tyler Fletcher.

Darren Fletcher’s sons had been in the City academy for nine years but opted to move to United and a £1.25million fee was paid to sign the pair.

According to the Manchester Evening News, sources at the Old Trafford club rate the pair incredibly highly and think they could be good enough for the first team soon.

2022 Youth Cup star spotted

Another academy player, who was tipped for big things after the Youth Cup in 2022, has also been spotted in first-team training, Sam Mather.

Mather was part of that winning team in 2022 which featured Garnacho, Charlie McNeill, Mainoo and Dan Gore as that trophy was lifted at Old Trafford.

He scored three goals and provided two assists for the young side during that successful run in the competition but after losing time to injury since then, he has had to wait patiently as he has watched his teammates break into the first team.

Seeing him back in training will be a welcome sight and don’t rule out the winger pushing hard for a first-team opportunity.
