Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez has given an emotional interview about what it means to represent the club.
One of the great disappointments of the 2023/24 season has been Lisandro Martinez being out injured and missing most of it.
‘The Butcher’ is the heartbeat of this Manchester United team spiritually, while stylistically, he has a major imprint on how Erik ten Hag‘s side defend, and use possession of the ball.
The good news is Martinez is closing in on a comeback, and he told club media this week: “I am really good, I am really good, honestly. My rehab is going amazingly, in the way that I want, I am feeling strong.”

Lisandro Martinez passionate about Manchester United
Even though he has been at Manchester United for just one full season, Lisandro Martinez ‘gets it’ when it comes to representing the Red Devils.
He knows what playing for the club means, and spoke about this during his interview, which sums up his excitement at being a Manchester United player.
Martinez explained: “I think it is really important to remember from where you started. Wow. We are talking about this and I feel a lot of emotions. So it is really important to me.”
“You have to be grateful. Look at this place, look at the badge, look at the stadium, the people, the fans, the passion. You just have to fight for your people, you have to fight for everybody.
“It is not just about you, it is about millions and millions of people. We need to be humble. Put the feet on the ground and go, go, and do not stop. No excuses and that is it.”
Lisandro Martinez comment put Jadon Sancho to shame
Lisandro Martinez’s comments put one player at the club in particular to shame, wantaway winger Jadon Sancho.
Sancho has effectively given up on his Manchester United career, choosing not to apologise to manager Erik ten Hag for a social media outburst.
Despite warnings he is ‘killing his career‘, Sancho has not played a single minute for the team since August, and is training alone.
Martinez says ‘No excuses and that is it’, yet Sancho has managed to find one.
The defender says he is ‘grateful’ at his opportunity and wants to ‘fight for the fans’. Where has all that been in Sancho’s thinking?
Has he given a moment’s thought for the supporters, many of who were so excited to see him play for the club when he signed in 2021.
Already there was a feeling that he had not lived up to expectation, and instead of fighting to become a success, he has quite embarrassingly called it quits.
Now the fans can’t wait to see the back of him, and you wonder just how much damage Sancho is doing to his reputation and his career with this extended spell on the sidelines.
