3 New Year's Resolutions Man Utd need to stick to in 2024, with number 3 an absolute essential to break old habits - opinion

It’s been a chaotic year to be a Manchester United fan.

2023 has been an absolute whirlwind of a year for Erik ten Hag and his Red Devils side. There have been highs, such as the FA Cup win, and inconceivable lows, with many to choose from.

Looking forward to the New Year, there are still some things that need to be addressed at Old Trafford.

Often Manchester United have a habit of putting something in place, then forgetting about it – so here are three New Year’s Resolutions United needs to stick with heading into 2024.

Keep trusting in youth, it’s getting results

Manchester United’s squad depth is seriously questionable, and with little to no funds heading into the January transfer window, we’re going to have to keep trusting in the academy talents.

The likes of Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho have arguably been our best players rounding off 2023, so we must keep trusting in the young lads next year.

Hannibal Mejbri, Joe Hugill, Shola Shoretire, Dan Gore and so many more are all budding talents that could easily begin to blossom as the new calendar year dawns. What have we got to lose?

Back Sir Jim Ratcliffe

The best bit of news to come in December had to be the confirmation of Sir Jim Ratcliffe‘s 25% stake in Manchester United.

Ratcliffe comes into Old Trafford to work, unfortunately, alongside the Glazers – but thankfully running the football side of things.

With such a huge change coming in, United simply have to get behind him and give the man whatever he wants.

Ratcliffe will be integral in 2024, with us seeing the full effects of the British billionaire probably in the summer transfer window. This is something to be excited about.

Stick with Erik ten Hag…

Manchester United’s ultimate New Year’s Resolution should be that, no matter how bad it gets, we must stick by Erik ten Hag.

Sacking the manager who brought the good times back to Old Trafford last season so prematurely would be a travesty.

Yes, things aren’t great right now, but we need to learn from the past and know that the dismissal of the coach won’t solve all problems immediately.

New Year’s Resolutions are all about breaking old bad habits – and this is United’s worst. Let 2024 be the year the cycle ends once and for all.
