5 signings Man Utd could make to replace £350k-a-week star who's 'ready to leave' - opinion

Casemiro looks like he could be on his way out of Old Trafford in January, here’s five signings Manchester United could replace him with.

Manchester United‘s legendary Brazilian has been injured for what feels like months at this stage. However, Casemiro has been seen back at Carrington in the past week ahead of a comeback.

But if reports are to be believed, this comeback won’t be coming for United.

90min has reported Casemiro is “ready to leave Manchester United in January”, which will leave Erik ten Hag needing to replace him.

So with that in mind, here are five signings that could be brought in to replace Casemiro should he leave.

Amadou Onana

Premier League proven and currently a star under Sean Dyche, Amadou Onana is probably the likliest signing to replace Casemiro – and what a signing he’d be.

United have been linked with a move for Onana throughout the campaign to date and also last summer.

The player himself has even spoke about a potential transfer in a recent interview where he backed himself to be ready for a big move.

Joao Neves

The favourite target for many is talented and exciting young Portugal star Joao Neves.

United have scouted Neves this season already and he’s seemingly impressed when he’s been watched.

Bruno Fernandes is a fan of the 19-year-old and he’d compliment Kobbie Mainoo’s talents perfectly.

Hayden Hackney

Probably the least known name on our shortlist, Hayden Hackney who is currently playing for Middlesbrough under Michael Carrick.

United are interested and are leading Man City in the race for his signature according to reports.

He would be a player for the longer term, with the England U21 ace not quite ready to be a regular starter right away.

However alongside Mainoo he could for a devastating partnership which could no doubt please Gareth Southgate in the England set-up.

Joao Palhinha

The standout player in an ever-impressive Fulham side, Portugal international Joao Palhinha was very close to joining Bayern Munich last summer.

However last week, it was suggested that a move United could be on the cards for him. United have reportedly made contact with his representatives ahead of a potential move.

The sticking point is his fee in the summer was said to be £60m, so a mid-season move no doubt would cost more.

At 28, he is firmly in his prime and would probably be ideal to field alongside Mainoo.

Kalvin Phillips

The final option on the list, current Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

This move is incredibly unlikely, however the reports suggest that Ten Hag is very keen.

The problem is that Phillips is a Leeds academy player who’s been at City for a few years, so he’d never quite feel like a United man.

Not to mention we would be bringing in a player that isn’t good enough for Man City, which won’t help us bridge the gap.
