Erik ten Hag has been advised to avoid playing £36m Manchester United forward and instead told he should look in the youth team.
Manchester United faced off against Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon in what was a torrid afternoon.
Erik ten Hag could only watch on as his side returned to their old tricks, losing 3-0 to Bournemouth and plunging the club into a crisis as we have seen so many times this season.
One player who has come under heavy fire as his every action was bemoaned by supporters, was Anthony Martial who looked several yards off the pace.
Now, the criticisms have piled up as former Crystal Palace defender Damien Delaney slams the forward while speaking on Premier Sports.
Anthony Martial slammed by Damien Delaney
The Irish defender didn’t hold back as he launched a critique on the out-of-form £36m United forward, but did offer Ten Hag some advice on how he can solve the issue.
“I can never understand it, he’s been nine years at Manchester United. He was torrid up at Newcastle and then was given a chance today…
“It’s the lack of effort and lack of interest when he gives the ball away. He slows up and doesn’t close or press down. He has been given an opportunity to throw down a marker because Marcus Rashford is being made an example of and Hojlund (is rested)… That is unforgivable.
“You could say to me ‘what choice did he have’, that Hojlund was not being risked due to injury and Rashford is being punished. I’ll tell you what, go into the youth team and get an 18-year old kid, because he will run around more than what he did tonight, he will give you more.
Even looking at the bench there, go and take Pellistri and put him as a no. 9, because he will give you more than what that man gives you. How he keeps getting a go in a Manchester United shirt, I will never understand…
“[Rashford’s] attitude as of late has been as bad as Martial’s, but Martial has been doing that for a very long time at Manchester United and keeps getting picked.”
Anthony Martial wage at Manchester United
The fact Martial is still a regular starter at Old Trafford is something of an embarrassment given how poor he has been for over a year now.
However, the worst part of it is the fact that he is currently earning a whopping £250k-a-week, according to Capology, a figure he has been on for several years at this point.
This sees him as the joint fourth-highest earner at the club, with the common denominator among the others being that they are all struggling to perform.
Martial is not worth the money he is earning and his contract expiring in June is a silver lining to take, but he really must go.
