Jurgen Klopp has been discussing Manchester United’s recent form ahead of Sunday’s huge clash at Anfield.
Manchester United are facing Liverpool on Sunday in a game in which few people have confidence that United will get anything from.
The pessimism comes from the fact on the last two trips to Anfield, the Old Trafford outfit have lost 11-0 on aggregate and given recent form, fears are high that this record could get even worse.
Never mind winning there, the Red Devils haven’t even scored at Anfield since 2018 which makes Sunday a daunting prospect.
Former United forward Dimitar Berbatov even made a telling prediction ahead of the game in which he predicted a Liverpool win.
Now though, Jurgen Klopp has shared his views on the game and admitted what he doesn’t like about this current United side.
Jurgen Klopp on Manchester United’s form
During his pre-match press conference on Friday, Klopp had a few things on his mind while discussing the current poor form of United, insisting he isn’t a fan of facing a wounded Red Devils side.
“I never like it when the headlines about Manchester United aren’t good before we play them, because then that’s the game where they can put things right”.
“I don’t like that at all. The more people say bad things about them, the stronger they become”.
Normally, this would be right about a side reeling and looking to put things right, but something about this United side doesn’t quite react the same way as they’re expected to.
Recent Man United v Liverpool results
This fixture in particular is one which United haven’t enjoyed in recent years. Just one win in the last five meetings tells that story, however, it’s made worse by the fact United have conceded at least four in each of these losses.
The 7-0 last year was the worst and followed the 2-1 win which was Ten Hag’s first at United. The season before under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick saw losses of 5-0 at home and 4-0 away respectively.
Before these in 2021, there was a 4-2 loss at Old Trafford which kick-started the bad run. However, before this, United had lost one in five which tells us that the rivalry sees periods of domination for both sides.
A tough fixture historically and one which is difficult to be optimistic about, but as always it’s football there’s always a chance and with the players at Ten Hag’s disposal, three points are absolutely on the table.
