Manchester United fans have praised Antony for his “fantastic” work rate and “immense” performance against Chelsea at Old Trafford on Wednesday evening.
Antony has faced continued criticism over his United performances since his big-money move from Ajax in 2022, despite Erik ten Hag staunchly defending him.
The 23-year-old Red Devils winger hit out at the “unfair and malicious criticisms” he has received, with Antony stepping up his United performances in recent weeks.
Antony, who recently addressed the rumours around the United first team, put in a stellar performance in his side’s costly 3-3 draw against Galatasaray last month.
The Brazil star secured his place in United’s starting XI for the Chelsea clash, with Marcus Rashford being dropped and Alejandro Garnacho starting on the left.

Antony’s United performance vs Chelsea earns rave reviews
United fans on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, were impressed with what they saw from Antony in the Premier League clash at Old Trafford.
One fan claimed that the Brazil international would “be an elite LB” after seeing his work rate, while another insisted that Rashford could learn a thing or two from him.
“Antony’s work rate is fantastic,” one fan simply said.
Someone else added: “Antony’s work rate is so impressive. Just needs to add some end product.”
A third posted: “Antony would really be an elite LB.”
While a fourth tweeted: “Antony is showing something closer to his true level, which is not bad at all (but nowhere near £90m). However, the decision-making holds him back so much.”
“Antony has been immense [against Chelsea],” one X user stated.
And a sixth commented: “Antony’s work rate is what Marcus Rashford lacks.”
Another wrote: “Antony [is] enjoying it. Unusual to see a United forward on that side actually running.”
Ten Hag’s faith in Antony is paying off
Ten Hag worked closely with Antony at Ajax and the United manager has continued to support him in spite of the criticism that has been directed at the player.
Antony, who spoke highly of Ten Hag’s influence, showed exactly why the Dutchman wanted to reunite with him at Old Trafford after his classy display against Chelsea.
The former Ajax winger has struggled with his goalscoring output and assists, but his work rate on Wednesday showed he can offer more than an attacking threat.
Just as Harry Maguire has undergone a redemption story at United this season, it could be Antony’s turn next if he keeps up his stellar performances in a Red Devils shirt.
