'Super-competitive' Manchester United wonderkid would 'never' miss a training session, says ex-coach

Former Getafe coach Antonio Mellado has opened up about Alejandro Garnacho’s time at the Spanish club.

Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho is beginning to show his huge potential once again after a good week for the Red Devils.

Garnacho scored a stunning overhead kick against Sean Dyche’s Everton at Goodison Park and also scored a vital goal against Galatasaray in Turkey, despite the game finishing in a 3-3 draw.

The Argentine had a poor start to the season much like his teammates who struggled to score goals for the Red Devils but the teenager has come to life recently and looks like one of United’s best attackers.

Mellado on Garnacho

Speaking to Spanish outlet Marca, Antonio Mellado, former Getafe coach, has been speaking about about the winger’s rather unknown time at the La Liga side.

Garnacho began his career in Getafe’s youth system, before signing with Atletico Madrid, and then making the move to Manchester United in 2020.

“He had physical, technical and mental characteristics that made his difference from the others clear,” Mellado said.

“Having Garnacho is having one of those players that you always want to have on your team and that you do not want to face as a rival due to his super-competitive nature.”

The deep dive report from Marca also reveals that the winger would rarely miss a training session, ‘even if he wasn’t feeling well’.

Garnacho’s chance

With Marcus Rashford struggling to affect games as often as he did last season, this has to be Garnacho’s chance to prove he is good enough for a starting spot on that left-hand side.

Garnacho was the only player who looked to be able to provide the Red Devils with any semblance of threat against the Geordie side.

With a crucial game coming up against Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea, Garnacho has to start against the Blues as he could be the key to beating a side who are coming into the game off the back of victory over Brighton & Hove Albion on the weekend.
