There may not be a big prospect of a January transfer deals for Manchester United, with the club focused on outgoings.
January is always a difficult market for Manchester United, and while there could be some late surprises, these would likely just involve a loan addition being made.
The big business will take place in the summer, and there are several positions which will need strengthening.
One clear area which needs strengthening is striker, with Manchester United keen to provide support for Rasmus Hojlund.
Manchester United striker requirement
Manchester United want to sign a ‘Harry Kane level striker’, according to a report in The Standard.
This is easier said than done, in terms of identifying the player and managing to tempt him into the club without overpaying.
But there is one more specific requirement. Manchester United want the striker to be able to play alongside Rasmus Hojlund.
This works to give the manager extra tactical flexibility, and also ensures any new addition works to benefit Hojlund rather than make his life more difficult.
One name stands out
There is one standout name which fits Manchester United’s agenda, a potential deal for Brighton’s Evan Ferguson.
Ferguson is a player who has admitted he grew up supporting Manchester United, per The Mail, and has been emerging as the Premier League’s most exciting young forward.
The 19-year-old has age on his side, and has netted six Premier League goals this season for the Seagulls.
Ferguson has admitted trying to take bits of Harry Kane‘s game to apply to his own, and is a player who has the potential to be one of the league’s best strikers.
The problem will be dealing with Brighton, with crazy figures discussed in the £100 million bracket.
This would be more than United would want to pay on any young striker, but he would be a formidable force alongside Rasmus Hojlund.
The pair could line up together in a more traditional two-man strikeforce which would prove a real headache for defenders across the league.
This could be one to watch in the summer, or United may have an eye on a more unheralded hidden gem, to fill the position.
