Unexpected interest in Manchester United star might be too good to refuse, it's not the easy option

Manchester United have not quite figured out Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and interest from the Saudi Pro League throws up an unexpected opportunity.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been a consistent performer for Manchester United since signing for the club for £50 million in 2019.

Perhaps in a period of stability, with stronger players around him and consistent management, Wan-Bissaka would be more highly regarded.

Yet, five years on since his arrival from Crystal Palace, it is fair to ask whether Wan-Bissaka has actually improved over the past five years, or simply remained at the same level.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka future

Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s long-term future is currently unresolved. Manchester United activated a one-year contract extension earlier this month.

That was just a sticking-plaster solution. Wan-Bissaka’s deal expires in June 2025.

The easy option for Manchester United would be to hand the right-back a contract extension, and continue the situation as it has been, where he competes with Diogo Dalot.

Manchester United would be ‘fine’ in that scenario, but will Manchester United ever be ‘great’ with Wan-Bissaka, or is it time to ‘twist’ rather than ‘stick’?

Al-Nassr interest in Wan-Bissaka

There is unexpected interest in Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr, The Telegraph report.

Whether he would be tempted to join former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo and Alex Telles at the club remains to be seen.

But Manchester United might well find an offer tempting.

Despite various links to other Premier League clubs over the past 18 months, no side has made a formal offer for the defender.

The money in the Saudi Pro League could generate a substantial fee, which might allow United to recoup a large part of the funds spent on the defender in 2019.

Not the easy option

The easy option would be to keep the status quo and retain Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s services.

Losing him in the midst of this season might be inconvenient – but Manchester United have been accustomed to missing players all season, and Tyrell Malacia‘s expected return from injury will help depth at full-back. The fixture list is also more manageable, compared to this time last season.

The benefit of the sale would be the guaranteed income now, with the invitation to start plotting an upgrade at the position in the summer, to strike early.

A tempting offer could be too good for Manchester United to refuse, giving Ineos a chance to hand-pick their own right-back this summer.
