Senne Lammens has explained how Michael Carrick rallied Manchester United’s bounce back from the Premier League defeat to Leeds United at Old Trafford.
Manchester United returned to winning ways against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge after the crucial 1-0 Premier League win on Saturday evening.
However, Michael Carrick was under pressure on the weekend after Man Utd suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to Leeds United at Old Trafford last Monday.
Leeds’ win over Man Utd was the Red Devils’ first match in the post-March international break and after a 24-day waiting period for Carrick’s men.

Senne Lammens opens up on the expectations that Michael Carrick had for Man Utd after the Leeds United defeat
Matheus Cunha was the difference-maker for Manchester United in the Chelsea match after a stunning finish from a superb Bruno Fernandes cutback pass.
United legend Michael Carrick had faced an uphill battle for the visit to Stamford Bridge after the Red Devils lost multiple defenders to injuries and suspensions.
Speaking after United’s 1-0 Premier League win over Chelsea, Senne Lammens insisted that Carrick wanted the Red Devils to “react” to the Leeds United defeat.
“He’s very demanding, of course, but he also knows that in the Premier League you can win and lose some games,” he told The National.
“The most important thing always is how you react to it. I think last week against Leeds we were not good enough, especially at home, but we also knew that today was a very good chance for us to take those few points and take a very good step into the Champions League.”
Senne Lammens says Michael Carrick wanted Man Utd stars to rediscover the sentiments about their previous winning streak
Man Utd won their first four Premier League matches under Carrick after the 44-year-old Red Devils legend was appointed interim head coach back in January.
Lammens suggested that Carrick wanted Man Utd players to find that “feeling” they had from their winning streak in the aftermath of their loss to Leeds last week.
“It was a very good and important opportunity for us to take it and to like turn it around a little bit,” he added.
“We also know we believe in ourselves and sometimes it’s difficult to think about the first couple of games and when we had the winning streak and that feeling when that comes back.
“And we want that feeling back, so that’s also what he was speaking to us about to get that feeling back, and to start a run and I think today’s win was a very special one.”
Man Utd have only five Premier League matches remaining in their 2025-26 season at Old Trafford ahead of hosting Brentford in their next fixture on 27th April.
