'I feel for him': Erik ten Hag delivers backing to under pressure Man United ace who is still out injured

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has responded when asked if he is concerned about Mason Mount’s career at Old Trafford.

It has been a tough debut season for Mason Mount at Manchester United as injury problems have meant any promising appearances he has had for the Red Devils have been overshadowed by injury layoffs.

The Englishman may well be beginning to worry about his future in the midfield for the Red Devils with the teenage sensation Kobbie Mainoo already showing why United may well have a £100 million star on their hands for free.

Mount’s move from Chelsea has been a disastrous one and you wonder what the short to medium-term future holds for the 25-year-old attacking midfielder.

Ten Hag on Mount

The midfielder’s injury problems have killed any momentum he might have been building up in the first team and he is still yet to score his first goal for the Red Devils.

Speaking to the media after the win over Wolves, Erik ten Hag was asked about Mount and when the Englishman will be back with the team.

As per The Athletic, Ten Hag said: “He was struggling from the second game of the season. He returned for a period and then picked up another injury, so of course that’s not great.

“That is very frustrating for him and I really feel for him. I really want to be there for him because he had such high expectations and I had high expectations.

“I am sure he is a very good player for us. But, first of all, what’s now important is we have to do it very secure to get him fit. Secure in the process, step by step, don’t force it and then hopefully by the end of the season he can stay fit and fight his way into the team, or at least play a role in his team.”

Mount’s struggles

As mentioned, the injury problems Mount has had this season have meant he has been limited to just 12 first-team appearances for the Red Devils.

However, the Englishman has returned to first-team training so he may well be back in the first team sooner rather than later.

When Mainoo was returning from his serious injury, United allowed him to regain full fitness and he has been a revelation ever since, a similar strategy will be needed for Mount.
