Prolific Man Utd legend had huge impact on £82m-rated star and he was a role model for him, it's big praise

Bayern Munich and England striker Harry Kane has revealed that he looked up to one Manchester United legend growing up and “would have done anything” he said.

Harry Kane was heavily linked with Manchester United last summer after his future with Premier League side Tottenham was plunged into uncertainty.

However, Bayern Munich entered the race to sign the 30-year-old England captain and Kane called it time on his spell with Spurs and completed his move to Germany.

It was initially reported Bayern paid €100m (£86.4m) plus add-ons to sign Kane, but ex-club president Uli Hoeness later claimed the initial fee came in at €95m (£82m).

Kane has been in a rich vein of form since his blockbuster transfer to the Bavarians, with the former Tottenham star scoring 24 times in 20 league matches for Bayern.

Erik ten Hag had been keen to sign a new striker for United last summer and Kane emerged as a potential target at the time ahead of Bayern’s move.

However, United instead signed Denmark striker Rasmus Hojlund from Serie A side Atalanta in a deal worth £72m.

Kane talks up Man Utd legend’s influence

Harry Kane, who has previously raved about one Red Devils legend, came up against Manchester United earlier this season during his side’s Champions League campaign.

The England international found the back of the net from the spot-kick in Bayern Munich’s 4-3 win over United at the Allianz Arena last September.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Kane has opened up about the impact that United legend David Beckham had on him and how he feels he is in the same “situation” for other kids.

“I used to look up to players like David Beckham,” he said.

“Now I’m in that situation – there are a lot of young boys and girls looking up to me.

“You listen to your role models. I would have done anything Beckham said when I was a kid.”

Kane on one thing missing from his career

Bayern Munich striker Kane has often been mocked by fans over his lack of silverware, despite his incredible impact at Tottenham.

The Three Lions skipper has insisted that he wants to win major silverware with Bayern after admitting that his lack of trophies is a missing part of his career.

“I’ve made it clear that I want to be winning team trophies and that’s one of the things that’s missing from my career so far,” Kane added.

“But as always I’m not going to panic, either way I’m going to keep my head down, keep doing my best for the team and hopefully that starts with a good win on Saturday.”
