Manchester United legend Roy Keane opened up to Gary Neville about his best teammate of all time across both his club career and on the international stage.
Roy Keane enjoyed a prolific playing career at Old Trafford under Sir Alex Ferguson and is still widely revered for his long-lasting impact at Manchester United.
The 52-year-old Irishman excelled as captain and as a commanding midfielder for United, having made a name for himself at Nottingham Forest under Brian Clough.
Following his exit from Forest and arrival at United in 1993, Keane would have a legendary spell at the Red Devils and captain the club to an iconic treble win.
The Sky Sports pundit, who is considered one of the best midfielders of all time, lifted seven Premier Leagues, a Champions League and four FA Cups with United.
However, the Irish hardman was axed from Old Trafford in 2005 after his relationship with Ferguson fractured and Keane went on to play for Celtic.
Keane, who has previously named his toughest opponent of all time, was also captain for his country and made 67 appearances for the Republic of Ireland.
Gary Neville asked fellow Sky Sports pundit Keane about his best teammate of all time, with the former United captain naming one person who stood out in his mind.

Keane’s best teammate of all time
Speaking on The Overlap, Gary Neville pitched a series of questions to Roy Keane and his fellow Manchester United legend shared his feelings about his time on and off the pitch.
Keane revealed the best teammate he played alongside in his career and the legendary ex-United midfielder also opened up on his worst performance of all time.
The former Republic of Ireland and United skipper also stunned Neville with his admission over one legendary ex-teammate who he thought was overrated.
When Neville asked Keane about his best teammate of all time, Keane revealed that his pick would be none other than United legend Denis Irwin.
Keane, who revealed he only asked for one shirt swap in his entire career, played alongside fellow Cork native Irwin for both United and the Republic of Ireland.
“I’d have to maybe go with Denis Irwin because I roomed with Irwin [for] Ireland and United,” he said on The Overlap in 2021.
“And he’s a Cork man, even though he lives five minutes away and never gets in touch with me.”
Keane’s relationship with Man Utd legend Irwin
Despite holding Denis Irwin in high regard, Keane previously opened up about his experience of having his fellow Irishman as a roommate in his career.
The former Republic of Ireland international insisted that Irwin, who once received the ultimate praise from Ferguson, would “annoy” him “quite a bit” at times.
“I used to room with Denis Irwin,” he said (via the Irish Mirror in 2022).
“Denis was my roommate with Ireland and obviously at United. I don’t think players room together anymore. Players have their own rooms now but back then you did.
“Denis used to annoy me quite a bit.”
Keane continued: “But he’s annoying. He used to love the golf. He used to always watch the golf. There always seemed to be a golf tournament on.
“There were no iPads and all that but I’ll forgive him for that.
“Denis was mad for the golf, but then again, [he was] good company, of course.”
