'Beautiful' – Eric Cantona dropped his biggest tribute ever to Man Utd fans, he wants to perform one song in front of them

Manchester United legend Eric Cantona has revealed the song he would love to sing to Red Devils supporters at Old Trafford if he had the chance to perform it.

Eric Cantona had a remarkable impact at Manchester United during his magnificent spell in the 1990s under legendary former manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

One of the club’s most famous players to wear the iconic No 7 shirt, Cantona was a larger-than-life figure and brought incredible success to the Red Devils.

The 57-year-old Frenchman, who left Leeds United in 1992 to sign for the Red Devils, lifted four Premier League titles and two FA Cups at the club.

United legend Sir Alex Ferguson was a big admirer of Cantona, who scored 81 times and registered 62 assists in 183 appearances for the Premier League club.

Cantona remains a beloved figure among United supporters and is thought of highly by his former teammates, including fellow club legends Roy Keane and Gary Neville.

Despite his significant impact at Old Trafford, the United legend stunned Ferguson and the whole world with his sudden decision to retire at the age of 30 in 1997.

Following his football career, the eccentric former French forward has pursued his love for acting and even entered into the world of music as a singer.

Cantona on Man Utd fans and song choice

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, Eric Cantona was asked what song he would perform for Manchester United fans at Old Trafford if the opportunity ever presented itself.

The former France international picked a song from French singer and songwriter Monique Andree Serf, AKA Barbara, who passed away at the age of 67 in 1997.

Barbara produced a famous song called ‘Ma plus belle histoire d’amour’ in 1966, which translated from French to English would be ‘You are my most beautiful love story.’

According to Cantona, the aforementioned track from Barbara would be the song that he would love to sing in front of United fans at the Theatre of Dreams.

“The French singer, called Barbara, is dead now, but she was a great songwriter and a great singer,” he said.

“And she said my most beautiful love story is you [referring to ‘You are my most beautiful love story’].

“It’s a kind of message I gave to the fans because [of] all the love I received from them.

“I needed to, yeah, to tell them also the love I got for them and I love to sing this song. A bit of myself… a bit of everything.”

Cantona on Man Utd spell

Cantona opened up about his “very special” time at United and reiterated that ‘You are my most beautiful love story’ reminds him of his special connection to the fans.

“But I say we have been lucky to get all your love because we are very lucky to get all the love of the fans,” he continued.

“Especially for me, especially the ‘90s for Manchester United was very special. You know, because they didn’t win the league for 26 years and then for decades they were at the top in England, in Europe, everywhere.

“So, it was very, very special the feeling I have of this time. Maybe was the best year of my life. So, yeah, I love this. I love to sing this song for them.”
