Manchester United legend Roy Keane has dropped a big “compliment” on Aston Villa star Ollie Watkins after claiming that he could play for “one of the top teams.”
Ollie Watkins has impressed in the current campaign with Aston Villa, as Unai Emery’s men push for a top-four Premier League finish this season.
The 28-year-old Villa forward has scored an impressive 16 times and registered 10 assists in 28 Premier League appearances in the current campaign.
Watkins, who is under contract until 2028, could even earn himself a place in the England squad for the Three Lions’ Euro 2024 campaign in Germany this summer.
Villa are currently fourth in the Premier League table and are eight points ahead of sixth-place Manchester United in the race for top four.
However, Tottenham are only two points behind Unai Emery’s side and have a match in hand, with Spurs inflicting a crushing 4-0 defeat on Villa on Sunday.

Roy Keane’s praise for Watkins
Ollie Watkins’ stunning run of form has been valuable to Unai Emery’s Aston Villa side, with Roy Keane dropping major praise on the England international.
Keane, who has been a key punditry figure after his playing career, believes that Watkins is more than “capable” of playing for a club like Manchester United.
Speaking on Sky Sports (via the Metro), he said: “He could play for one of the top teams, couldn’t he?”
“Villa are a top team but you’re talking about bigger clubs in Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City.
“That’s a compliment to him, not that he has to leave Villa. But he’s capable of doing it.
“The kid is so sharp, he has a great shape to him, His movement is as good as any striker in the Premier League. He’s having an amazing season.”
Ollie Watkins to Man Utd?
United manager Erik ten Hag will be keen to reinforce his squad options this summer and a new forward option could be on the radar for the Dutchman.
The Red Devils are currently without Rasmus Hojlund due to injury and Erik ten Hag knows he needs additional depth in his frontline for next season.
However, it remains unclear if Watkins would be a potential target for United, despite his stunning run of form for top-four hopefuls Villa this season.
Watkins is still under contract with Villa until 2028 and it is very much unlikely that the Premier League club would allow him to leave without a hefty transfer fee.
