Roy Keane identifies major ‘worry’ with one Man Utd star ‘all the time,’ he thinks he’s holding team back

Manchester United legend Roy Keane has raised his concerns around one current Red Devils star after his former side lost 2-1 to Fulham in the Premier League.

Erik ten Hag’s men were dealt a major blow last weekend to their top-four Premier League ambitions after Marco Silva’s men snatched all three points at Old Trafford.

Manchester United underwhelmed with their performance last Saturday, with Calvin Bassey firing Fulham into a second-half lead at Old Trafford.

Harry Maguire cancelled out Calvin Bassey’s opener in the 89th minute, but Alex Iwobi struck in injury time for Fulham and left United without a single point.

United rallied back from their defeat in the Premier League with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest in the fifth round of the FA Cup at City Ground.

Despite Wednesday’s FA Cup win over Nottingham Forest, United now face a tall order in mounting a top-four Premier League challenge after the Fulham defeat.

Roy Keane talks Man Utd star

Manchester United are sixth in the Premier League and they are three points behind fifth-place Tottenham and eight points adrift of fourth-place Aston Villa.

The Red Devils face one of their toughest tests this Sunday when they travel to the Etihad for their Premier League showdown with Manchester City.

Jamie Carragher was extremely critical of United’s display against Fulham, with the Sky Sports pundit raising concerns about the tactics for one Red Devils star.

Speaking on the Stick to Football show, Roy Keane was far from impressed with United’s defence against Fulham and singled out an issue with Harry Maguire.

“They aren’t pressing up,” he said on The Overlap.

“I don’t want to be just pinning it on [Harry] Maguire, but there’s always that worry with Maguire coming up and squeezing the pitch, like all the other top teams are doing.

“There’s that worry with him all the time – that’s where there is gaps. They are frightened to death to come all the way up because they’re thinking ‘anything over the top, he’d be in trouble.’”

Keane critical of two other Man Utd stars

Keane made it clear that United manager Erik ten Hag is lacking players who are willing to commit to pressing during matches.

The United legend claimed Bruno Fernandes would not be doing it and Marcus Rashford, who has faced criticism over his pressing, will not commit to it either.

“Manchester United haven’t got the players to [press],” he said.

“[Bruno] Fernandes is not going to do it. Rashford won’t do it.

“They might do it for five or ten minutes, so if you’ve got a team that’s not going to press – we’re talking about leopards and spots.

“Man United are never really going to be good at that pressing side of it.”
