Joshua Zirkzee reports to Manchester United for pre-season, new signing ready to get started

New signing Joshua Zirkzee has reported to Manchester United to begin his pre-season.

Joshua Zirkzee became Manchester United’s first summer signing of 2024 back on July 14.

After being unveiled by the club just days after Netherlands’ Euro 2024 exit, Zirkzee was then sent on his summer holidays.

Two weeks on, the Dutch striker is now ready to get started for the Red Devils.

Joshua Zirkzee begins pre-season

Joshua Zirkzee was spotted on holiday with Jamal Musiala, his former Bayern Munich teammate, in America.

But rather than link up with the Manchester United tour squad, Joshua Zirkzee has now flown across the Atlantic to go back to Manchester.

Zirkzee was spotted reporting to Carrington, to undergo tests back at Manchester United’s training ground, to begin his pre-season.

Zirkzee won’t be entirely alone at Carrington. He will link up with Tyrell Malacia, who is undergoing his own pre-season programme due to his ongoing injury battle.

Zirkzee and Malacia know each other well, previously teammates for Feyenoord’s youth teams, and even went to school together.

It is unclear yet if Zirkzee will remain in Manchester, or fly out to the USA to join the tour squad.

Kobbie Mainoo, Luke Shaw, Alejandro Garnacho, Altay Bayindir, Lisandro Martinez, Facundo Pellistri, Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes are all yet to begin their pre-season training.

What Erik ten Hag said about Joshua Zirkzee

Manager Erik ten Hag is optimistic Joshua Zirkzee will give Manchester United’s attack a new feel.

He told club media after his signing was confirmed: “He is a player who can link up the game, who can be available, hold up the ball, have good ideas, be creative, can dribble, [make] combinations.

“So that’s a different type and always what we are looking for, so it gives us more options tactically, which is good because, especially up front, we have many players who can play very direct and they can take a big benefit from his skills.”
