'It's going to be' - former England manager predicts where Man Utd will finish in Premier League table under Erik ten Hag next season

Former England boss Sam Allardyce has revealed where he stands on Manchester United’s Premier League finish in the 2024-25 season under manager Erik ten Hag.

Erik ten Hag led Manchester United to their worst league finish in the Premier League era, with the Red Devils signing off last season in eighth place.

The 54-year-old Dutchman had previously led United to a third-place finish in his debut season at Old Trafford after his move from Ajax in 2022.

United secured a place in the Europa League for the 2024-25 season after Ten Hag’s men defeated Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley in May.

Ten Hag inked a new contract extension this summer after Ineos completed its end-of-season review, with the former Ajax boss retained for a third season at the club.

Allardyce’s Premier League prediction for Man Utd

Erik ten Hag has seen a shake-up at Old Trafford ahead of the new season, with Rene Hake and Ruud van Nistelrooy arriving as part of his coaching staff.

The Dutchman has also seen the departure of several players, including the likes of Mason Greenwood, Donny van de Beek and Willy Kambwala all being sold.

Manchester United have reinforced Ten Hag’s first-team squad this summer with the signings of Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna and Leny Yoro from Lille.

The Red Devils returned to action on Saturday for the Community Shield and suffered a penalty shootout defeat to Manchester City at Wembley.

Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, Sam Allardyce and former Bolton Wanderers star Kevin Nolan dropped their predictions for the 2024-25 season.

Allardyce and Kevin Nolan both agreed on Arsenal beating Manchester City to the Premier League title, with Pep Guardiola’s men to finish second.

Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham finished third, fourth and fifth respectively in the predictions, with Allardyce and Nolan tipping United to secure sixth place.

“Now that Ten Hag’s been settled, it’s going to be interesting to see whether he’s able to get Man United where they need to go,” Allardyce said.

Man Utd boss Ten Hag on Premier League

United will begin their 2024-25 Premier League campaign on Friday against Fulham, with kick-off slated for 8pm UK time at Old Trafford.

Following the Community Shield defeat, Ten Hag insisted that he took “positives” from the Manchester City loss and reiterated that his full focus is on the league.

“The league start is the most important,” he said, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“I think we can take a lot of positives from this game, and it will give us confidence but also a little bit of pain in our stomach.

“When you are twice leading – in the game and in the penalties – then you have to feel the pain. We were very close but [did] not [win] a trophy.”
