Manchester United player ratings vs Liverpool, two players get 4/10 as Mason Mount stars in defeat

Manchester United wrapped up pre-season with a defeat to Liverpool in South Carolina, here are the player ratings.

Liverpool were more than flattered by their 3-0 win over Manchester United on Sunday morning, with dubious decisions and sloppy defending giving them three easy goals.

Erik ten Hag will take positives from the game, with United looking by far the better team for much of the first half – in which plenty of chances were created by the likes of Amad Diallo and Mason Mount.

Ultimately, the scoreline means very little here just as in Ten Hag’s first pre-season we beat Liverpool comfortably – while United probably win this time around as well 99 times out of 100.

The real challenge starts next weekend, but for now, here is how each United player performed.

How every Manchester United player fared vs Liverpool

Andre Onana – 4

For Andre Onana, it was another handful of goals conceded which he will be disappointed with, however with such a weak centre-back pairing we should not expect much else.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 6

In what could be his final appearance for United, Aaron Wan-Bissaka left the field after playing an okay game, but we were reminded why his sale is the best outcome for United.

Victor Lindelof – 5

Victor Lindelof lasted until half-time before being hooked off after a disappointing outing. United need to sign another centre-back.

Jonny Evans – 4

On the pitch for the opening two Liverpool goals, Jonny Evans had a poor game, failing to close down Carvalho for the opening Liverpool goal and was nowhere to be seen for the second.

Harry Amass – 6

For Harry Amass, this game brought the toughest challenge of his career to date against Mohamed Salah. In one-on-one situations he had no trouble, winning the handful of battles they had, but Amass has been caught out of position a few times again which is an area he must work on.

Casemiro – 5

After impressing against Real Betis, Casemiro was poor here against Liverpool. He began well, but it very quickly turned sour as he lost five of seven duels and was dribbled past three times.

Toby Collyer – 5

Toby Collyer had a very hot and cold game against Liverpool, being excellent in the opening half-hour, but was at fault for the second goal and lost all six of his duels.

Amad Diallo – 7

Despite not scoring or assisting, Amad Diallo still created three chances in the match and was consistently one of United’s most dangerous players.

Mason Mount – 7

Another strong outing from Mason Mount, probably United’s best player in the first half and he will have been disappointed not to have scored with two chances and he also should have had an assist.

Marcus Rashford – 7

Marcus Rashford looked really sharp once again here against Liverpool and will feel he should have scored at least one with some good play and chances – impressing fans in the process.

Jadon Sancho – 6

Jadon Sancho lasted a good 70 minutes against Liverpool and had some bright moments in attack which could place him well to feature in the Community Shield.

Rhys Bennett – 6

A half-time addition, Rhys Bennett came on in Victor Lindelof’s place and was better than the Swede, even creating a chance while maintaining a 94% pass completion rate.

Will Fish – 6

Like Bennett, he was an improvement on who he replaced but Will Fish will be gutted to have picked up what looks like an injury.

Scott McTominay – 6

Blundered a huge chance to open the scoring as he also nears a move away from the club.

Christian Eriksen – 5

Didn’t look great when he came onto the pitch, a summer exit would be a smart move.

Antony – 6

Looked solid when he came on but looks unlikely to reclaim his right-wing spot.

Ethan Wheatley – 5

Ethan Wheatley has had a nightmare tour and it continued here as he missed a huge chance to score his first senior goal.

Sam Murray – 6

Did well defensively and on the ball too, and showed his quality in a short amount of time.

Maxi Oyedele – 6

Did well when brought on, but not much of note.

Sam Mather – 5

Looked sharp on the ball, but ultimately a lot of changes to the team did not benefit individuals trying to perform.

James Scanlon – 6

Did not put a foot wrong, and completed every pass he attempted.
