PSG beat Bayern to top target and it could be double good news for Manchester United

Manchester United may be paying attention to a developing situation concerning Paris Saint-Germain.

Bayern Munich dragged out the sales of Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt, with the two players finally set to clinch their moves to Manchester United.

They hope to use the funds to sign their own targets – but appear now to have just missed out on a key target.

The Athletic had reported Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain were battling it out for French wonderkid Desire Doue.

Desire Doue to Paris Saint-Germain

Bayern Munich now look set to miss out on Rennes youngster Desire Doue, with the French Olympic silver medalist deciding he wants to join PSG.

French newspaper L’Equipe reports Desire Doue has told PSG they are the club he wants to sign for, and a fee will now be negotiated with Rennes.

Desire has been convinced following talks with PSG’s leaders and manager Luis Enrique.

Earlier in the summer Desire Doue had been named as a player Manchester United admired, per The Sun, however, the attacking midfielder features in a position the Red Devils were not prioritising this summer.

Double impact for Manchester United

Desire Doue’s move from Rennes to Paris Saint-Germain could have a double impact for Manchester United.

PSG’s move for Doue could very likely end PSG’s loose interest in Jadon Sancho. The French club made contact with United over Sancho, but this has not developed into anything further.

While some might be disappointed if United don’t sell Sancho, the winger is currently part of Erik ten Hag’s plans for 2024/25, somewhat surprisingly.

PSG were seen as the only likely destination for Sancho, and Doue’s move could further reduce their need and interest.

The other impact is on Manchester United’s desired move for Manuel Ugarte. The Uruguayan remains a key target in midfield, and Ugarte still wants to move to United.

United stepped back from a move last week to consider other options, viewing PSG’s £50 million asking price as too high.

Already this summer PSG have completed deals for midfielder Joao Neves, defender Willian Pacho and goalkeeper Matvey Safonov, spending around £120 million on the trio, while only selling Hugo Ekitike for a fee of £14 million.

Add a move for Doue, set to cost more than £30 million, will take PSG’s spending to around £140 million net on the summer.

It makes a lot of sense they will look to cash in on players, namely Manuel Ugarte, who wants out, and has already agreed personal terms with Manchester United.

With their focus set to switch to selling players, United may yet be able to whittle down the Ugarte price tag to a fee more acceptable to Ineos.
