Harry Maguire singles out just one Manchester United player for praise after Aston Villa clash

Manchester United drew 0-0 to Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday night, in a fixture with little to write home about for the Red Devils.

It wasn’t exactly a game to remember but could be a pivotal day in the future of Erik ten Hag – whose Manchester United future now hangs firmly in the balance.

The Dutchman didn’t have too many standout performers on the day, with Manchester United players ratings against the Villans rather drab – but there was one standout performer.

Harry Maguire, who was injured against Aston Villa, also singled this man out for some praise.

Harry Maguire praises Jonny Evans following Aston Villa

The undeniable Man of the Match against Aston Villa, Jonny Evans rolled back the years and put in a stellar performance against Unai Emery’s side.

This was noticed by Maguire, who took to Instagram following the result to give the Red Devils veteran his dues.

Evans was presented with the Premier League Man of the Match award, which Maguire snapped a photo of him with on the team coach, with the caption: “Well deserved.”

And he’d be absolutely correct. Evans showed that class is permanent against tough opposition in Villa.

Jonny Evans game by numbers for Manchester United

Despite a sea of arrivals in the centre-back department for Manchester United, it was a man who made his debut in 2007 who stole the show at Villa Park.

If Ten Hag does have a future at Old Trafford – he’ll be glad he made the decision to keep Evans around for another campaign.

Once again, the 36-year-old should prove a vital asset for the Red Devils this season.
