Report: Erik ten Hag faces imminent Manchester United decision as Ineos eye Premier League manager

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag faces a nervy 24 hours as his future in the Old Trafford dugout is assessed by key decision makers.

Manchester United head into the international break having picked up two draws in a pivotal week for under-fire boss Erik ten Hag.

Many believed that defeats away at Porto and Aston Villa would leave Ten Hag on the brink of the Old Trafford exit.

United avoided defeat in both games but neither result or performance has really solidified Ten Hag’s status.

United threw away a 2-0 lead at Porto before a late Harry Maguire equaliser.

The trip Villa to ended in a 0-0 draw as United continue to struggle scoring goals in Premier League action.

Erik ten Hag latest as Manchester United decision looms

United sit 14th in the Premier League table and Ten Hag is struggling to prove that he is the man to lead the club forward in the long term.

The international break is prime managerial change time and Ten Hag could yet be axed despite avoiding defeat in his last two games.

The Guardian report that United are set to make a final decision on Ten Hag’s future on Tuesday.

It’s suggested that Sir Jim Ratcliffe will meet with the likes of Omar Berrada, Dan Ashworth and Jason Wilcox to make a call on Ten Hag.

There has been no suggestion that a sacking is imminent but nothing can be ruled out – and Ruud van Nistelrooy is viewed as a potential caretaker manager.

Van Nistelrooy return to United as a coach this summer and Dwight Yorke believes his move is somewhat suspicious, believing that the Dutchman may want the top job down the line.

If Ten Hag does go, Van Nistelrooy could take over on an interim basis as Ineos weigh up their options.

Thomas Frank on the radar

The report adds that one Premier League manager is also being eyed to replace Ten Hag if a change is made.

Brentford boss Thomas Frank is understood to be wanted by Ineos after his impressive work in West London.

Reports back in May suggested that Frank was a ‘strong contender’ for the United job.

It was claimed that Frank has strong ties to Sir Dave Brailsford, who is a key decision maker at United.

That connection could bring Frank back into the thinking but much will depend on that final decision on Tuesday.

Gareth Southgate and Thomas Tuchel have both been linked with the job and are available right now whereas Frank would require considerable compensation.
