Marcus Rashford scored the first goal under Ruben Amorim at Manchester United after just 81 seconds.
Manchester United came sprinting out the blocks at Portman Road and took the lead after Marcus Rashford latched onto Amad Diallo’s cross.
However, the Red Devils only picked up a point in Ruben Amorim’s first match due to Omari Hutchinson’s first-half equaliser.
When United’s confirmed XI vs Ipswich was announced, it became immediately clear that Amorim had made some bold decisions across the entire lineup, including a striker role for Rashford.
Amorim hinted that Rashford could play as a central striker in his 3-4-3 system, and he wasted no time giving the 27-year-old the chance to lead the line for United.
How Marcus Rashford performed for Man United vs Ipswich
Rashford was criticised for his US trip over the international break, but Amorim overlooked it and handed him a starting spot against Ipswich.
It only took Rashford 81 seconds to repay that faith and score the first goal under Amorim, but he struggled to build on that momentum for the rest of the match.
Rashford’s energy levels visibly dropped as the match went on and he struggled to stay involved. Amorim eventually made the decision to replace him in the 68th minute for Joshua Zirkzee.
In those 68 minutes, Rashford took just 12 touches of the ball and completed eight passes. He won just one duel and completed one tackle with zero interceptions. If Rashford started with a bang, then it quickly fizzled.
Man United fans frustrated by Marcus Rashford display
Rashford gave Amorim and United fans a dreamy start to the match, but the drop in his performance levels was quickly noticed by supporters.
They flocked to social media to give their verdict on Rashford’s performance, and it is fair to say fans were frustrated.
One supporter wrote: “Rashford will never win you duels. That’s a really big problem if he’s going to be playing 9.”
A second added: “And that is why I don’t really like Rashford at striker, he never has impact on the game, he’s better roaming freely in attack”.

A third said: “Rashford is not a centre forward , he isn’t a pest and can’t keep the ball”. Another posted: “Got the goal but offered absolutely 0, can Rashford please just challenge for any aerial duel”.
Others continued to suggest that Rashford was not a good fit for Amorim’s system…
One fan wrote: “We will never be a pressing team with Rashford. He’s too lazy.” while another added: “The system isn’t for lazy 9s like Rashford”.
