'I am in my last year': £120,000 a week Manchester United ace opens up on future

Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof has opened up on his future at Old Trafford with the Swedish defender now in the final year of his contract.

Victor Lindelof cost Manchester United £30 million when the Red Devils decided they needed a centre-back under Jose Mourinho and they signed the Swedish ace from Portuguse giants SL Benfica.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is a big fan of Lindelof and this has fuelled speculation that a move to AC Milan could be on the cards either in January or the summer.

With just a year remaining on Lindelof’s £120,000 a week contract at Old Trafford, he will have a big decision to make about his future.

Victor Lindelof opens up on United future

Ruben Amorim is set to take charge of United replacing Erik ten Hag, who was sacked by Ineos and the Portuguese head coach could need Lindelof.

During Amorim’s time at Sporting Lisbon, he would insist on playing either a back three or a back five which would require three centre-backs in the team and this would make the Swede an important part of the team.

Speaking to Swedish outlet Fotbolldirekt, Lindelof was asked about his club future whilst away on international duty but he was giving little away.

“This [transfer] is not something I think about,” Lindelof said. “My focus has been to come back from the injury and play football again. But of course, there will be writings now what will happen when I am in my last year,” he said.

With Lindelof no longer the first chouce option, the Swede has featured in multiple positions including full-back and even as a defensive-midfielder and he could have a key role to play under Amorim.

Victor Lindelof has big chance to impress Ruben Amorim

United’s first choice back three, whenever everyone is fit, will most likely be Matthijs De Ligt, Lisandro Martinez and Leny Yoro.

Emphasising on the whenever they are fit aspect as Martinez and Yoro have had long-term injury absences in recent months so depth in these areas will be key.

Outside of the first choice back three for Amorim, Lindelof and Harry Maguire are really the only natural options but Noussair Mazraoui could be an interesting centre-back option.

However, until the summer at least, Lindelof and Maguire will play key parts in Amorim’s team so it is vital the Portuguese head coach keeps the centre-back pair.
