Nicky Butt is convinced Man Utd talent could sign for one of two elite clubs in future, despite ‘doing well’ at Old Trafford

Nicky Butt has suggested that it could be written in the stars for Alejandro Garnacho to leave Manchester United in the future and sign for an elite team.

Alejandro Garnacho became part of the Manchester United youth academy after the Red Devils snapped up the talented winger from Atletico Madrid in 2020.

The Spain-born winger broke into the United first team under former Red Devils interim manager Ralf Rangnick in 2022.

Garnacho was a preferred winger option for Erik ten Hag and the Spain-born winger has made 104 appearances for the Red Devils to date and he has scored 22 times.

The Argentina international has impressed at times during the current campaign, with Garnacho netting seven times in 18 appearances across all competitions.

Man Utd legend Butt on two clubs

Nicky Butt had a successful playing career at Old Trafford after rising through the youth academy and breaking into the Manchester United first team in the 1990s.

One of the famed ‘Class of ‘92’ members, Butt made 385 appearances for the Red Devils under legendary former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

The 49-year-old former United and England midfielder lifted six Premier League titles, a Champions League trophy and three FA Cups with the Red Devils.

Butt, who left United in 2004 and signed for Newcastle, admitted that the “best players always leave” the Premier League and head to Span’s top-flight league.

The United legend insisted that La Liga clubs Real Madrid and Barcelona are seen as the “next level” for a “lot of the players,” despite the Premier League’s reputation.

“The Premier League is the best league in the world but all the best players always leave and go to Spain, go to Real Madrid or Barcelona,” he told Paul Scholes on Football’s Greatest podcast.

“If you look at all the superstars, they never stay in the Premier League. They stay until they need to go to the next level.

“A lot of the players see the next level as being Real Madrid or Barca but we don’t see anywhere bigger than Man United. Our mentality is if you leave Man United, you’re going down.”

Butt on Man Utd star Garnacho and future

Butt praised Alejandro Garnacho for his impact at United, but he has warned that the Argentina international’s future could be away from Old Trafford.

He claimed that the allure of Real Madrid or Barcelona could tempt Garnacho in the future, with Butt adding that players “become superstars” at the two Spanish clubs.

“You don’t get appreciated here like you do at Madrid,” Butt added.

“You can guarantee Kylian Mbappe will be in the running for the Ballon d’Or next year because he’s at Real Madrid.

“It’s like Garnacho, he’s doing well here now, he’s a young Argentinian boy.

“If he keeps going, you can imagine him wanting to go to Real Madrid or Barcelona. Players become superstars there, not only on the football pitch.”
