After Erik ten Hag got the boot on Monday, Manchester United have went out and appointed arguably Europe’s best young coach.
It only took Ineos a few hours from sacking Erik ten Hag, to settling on Ruben Amorim as the perfect replacement.
Manchester United’s new footballing structure is working its magic by appointing the best possible coach – after unexciting links with Xavi, Thomas Frank and the dreaded Gareth Southgate.
United announced Amorim on Friday as the new head coach, although the Sporting Lisbon manager will not take the helm from Ruud van Nistelrooy until November 11th.
He will then have the international break to work on the training ground with his new players before he begins his quest for glory on the 24th of November against Kieran McKenna and Ipswich.
Ruben Amorim’s Sporting Lisbon have the best record in all of Europe
As his time in Lisbon comes to an end over the next 10 days and three games, the extent of Amorim’s magic with the green and white side can be seen clearly.
Opta has revealed that since Amorim took charge in March 2020, Sporting boasts the highest win percentage of any team in Europe’s top 10 leagues.
Amorim has won 120 of his 156 games in charge which gives him a 77 per cent win rate.
By comparison, Ten Hag’s win rate is 56 per cent and Mikel Arteta’s is 60 per cent – this shows just how remarkable Amorim’s record is.
Manchester United have got managerial decision spot on
In appointing Amorim, the leading figure was United sporting director Dan Ashworth. His decision will have been helped along by Jason Wilcox and others – but ultimately the potential success or failure rests on Ashworth.
Manchester United’s footballing structure under Ineos
However, with this decision, Ineos have been absolutely perfect in opting for Amorim – instead of possibly going for a bigger-name manager like Xavi.
Amorim was at the top of Liverpool’s wishlist following Jurgen Klopp’s exit and then he was also believed to be the man Manchester City wanted for Pep Guardiola’s inevitable exit.
In Amorim, United have got the future of coaching in Europe and possibly a generational head coach too as he has the acumen to be in the ilk of Jose Mourinho who has already given his seal of approval.
Amorim has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the option for a further year, by which stage we expect Ineos and the new head coach will have us back where we belong.
