Marcus Rashford and Matheus Cunha have Man Utd fans now debating over Michael Carrick’s role for another player

Marcus Rashford and Matheus Cunha caught the attention of Manchester United fans after the Red Devils’ 5-2 Premier League win against Ipswich Town at Old Trafford.

Bruno Fernandes came to Manchester United’s rescue in the first half on Sunday evening after Leif Davis fired Ipswich Town into the lead in the 29th minute.

The 31-year-old Man Utd captain netted the Red Devils’ equaliser in the 40th minute after Matheus Cunha picked him out with a superb pass during a counterattack.

Bruno Fernandes played a key role in United’s comeback against Ipswich after his hat-trick, but Cunha and Marcus Rashford raised another major question for fans.

Man Utd fans feel that Marcus Rashford and Matheus Cunha’s roles should see Patrick Dorgu shift positions now

Marcus Rashford made his first Premier League start for Manchester United since 2024 after he impressed in his second-half cameo against Hull City last week.

The 28-year-old England star was deployed out on the left wing, while Matheus Cunha continued to operate from a central role for Sunday evening’s 5-2 win.

Rashford made way in the 80th minute for Patrick Dorgu and Cunha was subbed off for United striker Benjamin Sesko for the remainder of the Premier League match.

Patrick Dorgu’s second-half cameo was enough to convince United fans that Rashford and Cunha must start ahead of him on the left wing under Michael Carrick.

“Cunha and Rashford own that LW. I don’t want to ever see Dorgu starting any match there again,” one Man United fan said.

Another Red Devils supporter wrote: “I need Carrick to stop using Cunha as [a] false 9. Sesko should be back to his position. Dorgu and [Luke] Shaw to LB, Rashy and Cunha for [the left] wing.”

“Need to at least try Dorgu at left-back. With Rashford and Cunha there at left wing, [there is] no need to force him at LW,” a third X user tweeted.

Someone else wrote: “Dorgu back to LB — thank you [as he is] not a LW. We got Cunha and Rashy [for the left wing and] we [are] good.”

“Probably give Dorgu a run out at LB [and] overlapping Rashford/Cunha [and] see how that works,” another suggested.

While a sixth added: “They should return Dorgu to left-back, please. Rashford and Cunha to left wingers.”

“You can’t watch this Rashford performance and expect Dorgu to start ahead of him,” a seventh Man Utd supporter argued.

Somebody else commented: “Carrick still brought Dorgu [on] to replace Rashford! […] Dorgu cannot play in that position! It’s crystal clear!”

Dorgu produced a woeful performance for Man Utd in last week’s 2-0 Premier League defeat to Hull City and was hooked off at the half-time whistle.
