There was a lift at Old Trafford as Manchester United recorded their first win of the season, with a convincing 5-2 victory over Premier League newcomers Ipswich Town.
Michael Carrick guided his Manchester United players to a home victory over Ipswich Town on Sunday evening.
After going 1-0 down in the first half, United were inspired by hat-trick hero Bruno Fernandes as they overcame the visitors by winning 5-2 at Old Trafford.

One of the main takeaways from Carrick’s interview was that he is happy with the performance as well as the result. They’re the sort of foundations he will want the team to lay for the busy campaign ahead.
In terms of performance, Carrick explained he was pleased to see how United controlled the game throughout.
“It was a good win,” Carrick said.
“It was a really good win in the end. We played some really good football. The biggest thing today was the mentality of the team to overcome setbacks.
“We’re going to have them, and it depends on how you deal with them. I was really pleased with that. It’s easy to look at the result, but the mentality and the stubbornness really pleased me.
“We controlled the game pretty well for the most part. A lot of our play was looking on the way to how we wanted it to look. The boys took it on really well, and we were fabulous.”
United need to back that up against Everton next week, but they also need to defend a lot better against stronger Premier League outfits.
Bruno Fernandes singled out after hat-trick heroics
Fernandes was United’s standout performer, scoring his third hat-trick for the club.
Carrick was asked about Fernandes when he didn’t sound too surprised by the performance, given all of the individual awards he has collected in recent months.
“He showed his quality today,” the United head coach said.
“Bruno did what he’s good at. He’s had a big week winning awards. Three goals and a fantastic performance.
“There were a lot of positives with and without the ball but it’s the whole mentality dealing with it and trusting each other. Last week didn’t go for us and we accept that. Today was a lot better.
“We’re not getting carried away. We were down last week but everything wasn’t wrong. We can still get better, we haven’t cracked it. We’ll get ready for the next.”
